Chapter 1
Nick's POV Have you ever been in a situation where you felt you could be so much more, but you were hampered by your surroundings or the people you surrounded yourself with? I know you have heard so many stories about how women and girls were maltreated and pushed against the wall in the very place they called home. However, few people share stories about males being dehumanized and made the targets of mockery by their subordinates. I'm so sorry for my rant. I know you are beginning to wonder who the f**k I am. Well, I am a nobody, or at least that is what everyone over the years has made me believe. Even though I am the first son of the greatest alpha king that has ever lived, with over fifty packs scattered all around the United States of America under his command, I just happen to be my father's greatest regret, the worst mistake he has ever made. I do not know who my mother is or was. I have never met her. But according to the rumors I have heard, the story goes that my mother, who happened to be a human, abandoned me after she found out that my father was a werewolf. Growing up, I was always haunted by the thought that I was not good enough, because if I was, my mother would not have done what she did. But over time, I have come to realize that if anyone chooses not to stay in my life, it's their loss. They only created a vacuum for someone more important to fill. "Nick, where are you?" I heard Simeon call out through the mind link. Simeon is my best friend. It's safe to say we became friends as a result of our predicament. Simeon's mother died while giving birth to him, and on the same day, he lost his father on the battleground. Everyone thinks he is cursed, as it is uncommon to have multiple tragedies befall a newborn. We both grew up in my late grandma's cabin, and since we both had ourselves, we grew up like brothers. "Getting ready to come out," I said, stretching and yawning on the tiny pieces of foam I use as a bed. The foam would accommodate any moderate person with an average height, but it was very tiny for me because I was over six feet tall. I live in an old abandoned basement in the packhouse, where I share space with old and abandoned household equipment. I stood up from the foam to get dressed for the day, as I randomly picked up my old faded blue jeans and white shirt to wear. The good thing is, I can make any shirt look good due to my body I was quickly ready to leave the shithole I called a room. As soon as I stepped foot inside the Packhouse, which happens to be a magnificent castle, I saw Richard coming out of his room with a girl. My evil stepbrother. His face was all sweet and filled with smiles till the moment his eyes landed on me. The smiles disappeared. I sort of have that type of effect on people generally, and my evil stepbrother is no exception. The girl by his side was shyly looking at her uninteresting toes. Her hair was a knotted mess and it looked like they had a very interesting night. I could feel the spinning arrows from Richards's eyes on me, but I decided to ignore him and be on my way to avoid trouble. "Come back here," he barked after me, his voice stopping me in my tracks. I turned to look at him and the w***e by his side. "Is this how you were taught to pay respect to your alpha?" He was trying to attempt the use of authority in his voice, which felt like a feathery tickle on my cheeks. "You are not the alpha yet. At least wait till your father's death before claiming to be one," I said to him casually. “And I can promise you that it won't be long. As you know, our father is already very sick and may die anytime soon, so I will advise that you start packing your belongings because as soon as I become the alpha, you will be banished from this land, bastard," he said, spitting out his venom all over the place. I can't believe this stupid, dumb imbecile is wishing for his father's death. Not that I give a f**k if the old bastard dies or lives. "You seem to forget that I am older than you, and as such, I demand that you mind the tone of voice you use when addressing me," I said while walking towards him to close the gap between us. At that moment, I was upset, and beating him up was the only reasonable thing that appealed to my already bruised ego. I mean, who wouldn't be pissed? My position as heir to the throne as the only true alpha male in the family was passed down to this imbecile just because he is a legitimate son. "How dare you raise your voice to talk to your alpha in that manner?" Miranda said, walking in from outside the door, her face darkening with her poor choice of make-up, like who the f**k wears make-up in the wee hours of the morning? If not my father's mistress turned baby mama, Miranda. To some extent, it's safe to say that she is my stepmother in terms of wickedness and manipulation. She possesses all the bad attributes of what a bad stepmother should be. Her reddish-brown hair that she tries so hard to style fancifully reminds me of my old grandma's mopping stick that was used to mop off the blood of injured soldiers. She scoffed, flickering her evil eyes in their tiny little sockets. "How do you want him to address you? You seem to have forgotten your place here in this palace. You are a nobody, a bloody bastard, and don't be fooled by these muscles of yours, because if you allow yourself to be fooled by them, it will be your undoing," she scoffed, flickering her evil eyes in their tiny little socket. I could feel my blood boil as I tightened my already fisted hands. I was trying so hard to control the anger in me. "Why are you suddenly quiet? "You seemed all bossy a few minutes ago, you bloody son of a prostitute," Richard said with an evil grin. At that moment, I lost it. In a flash, I walked over to where he stood and I held him by his throat so tightly that he started to gasp for breath. I lifted him off the ground as his legs found themselves floating in the air. His eyes were filled with blood, and his nose had not been spared. He grabbed on tightly to my hand, attempting to loosen my tight grip around his neck. His mother was terrified as she hit me countlessly in a bid to make me free her son, but her slaps and kicks felt like nothing to me. If anything, I was happy to see her suffer. Within seconds, he stopped moving. He was dead with his eyes wide open and his tongue sticking out. I was f*****g glad that my face was the last thing he saw before he died. "What are you staring at? Don't you have someplace to be?" Miranda said, her voice bringing me back from my deepest imagination. "Walk away, Nick, just walk away," my wolf said. So I turned and left mother and son to their delusion, because I knew if I stayed and shared the same air space with them longer than I already had, one of them would surely be dead. I could feel their eyes piercing holes through my body as I walked out of the door. I assured myself that one day I was going to pay them for all their ill-treatment of me. "Nick, where are you? A rogue has been spotted lurking around the park," Simeon said through the mind link. Just what I needed.
