Nightly encounter

Sarah POV “s**t, I think we lost them.” Alexandra panted, after shifting back into her human form. Arriving at the border, they had stumbled upon an ambush of rogues. The border patrol was already in a full-on battle against them, the sound of snapping teeth, yelps, and growls could be heard all around. Sarah and Alexandra quickly joined in tearing into the enemies with quick succession. They worked in a formation they had often practiced during training. When the other warriors joined in, the rogues quickly noticed they were outnumbered and started retreating. You smell that? Alexandra asked through the mind link. It smelled of a wolf belonging to a pack among the stench of rogues. They had smelled this a few times before now, but they hadn’t been able to discover to which pack they belonged. I still have like forty minutes left. I’ll jump in the shower and throw on a dress when we get back. Let’s see if we can catch them. Sarah replied, putting her nose to the ground to try and track whoever was initiating these attacks. They needed to know not only who, but why? The group, consisting of Sarah, Alexandra and six elite warriors from their group, followed the trail until they reached a cave up in a rocky area. Should we go inside? One of the men asked Sarah. Let’s cloak our scent first by rolling in the mud. She jerked her head toward a mud pool. Lucky for them, it had rained a lot over the last few days. After making sure they smelled of mud, four of them, including Sarah, stepped inside of the cave. They soon discovered it ran deep. Sarah could hear droplets of water falling in the distance, hinting to the possibility of an underground lake. They paused when they heard a growl…and then another. Shit, we’ve got company! Sarah opened a multi-mind link. Shit, we’re surrounded! Alexandra yelled through the link before a fight broke out. They soon realized they had been ambushed. They ran back to the entrance with the enemy wolves hot on their tails. Back to back, the eight wolves made a circle formation, fighting for their lives. They were too far away from the Kingdom to mind-link for help, leaving them to fend for themselves. Two hours later, exhausted and wounded, they headed back. You are in a shitload of trouble. You know that, right? Alexandra chuckled weakly, bouncing on three legs as her forth slowly healed. She was already fully healed. It was one of the perks of being a Royal wolf. I was protecting the Kingdom, surely the council can’t fault me for that! Sarah grunted, with an unconscious warrior on her back. But they could… Sarah stared out of her bedroom window pondering today’s events. After dropping off the wounded at the pack hospital, Sarah had thrown on shorts and a top and made her way to the dinner party she was supposed to be at hours ago. Her father had already connected with through the link the moment she had set foot on the premises asking if she was alright. The council was less forgiving. “The guests waited for you for hours,” “A Princess’ place is not on the battlefield,” “What will the people who were watching the show think?” Those were a few of the questions she had received. That she was protecting the Kingdom didn’t mean s**t to these people. In fact, it got her more disapproving looks. She had stalked out of the ballroom and headed straight for her room, desperately needing a shower. After that, she felt too restless to sleep as worry for the trials started creeping in. Who would claim her? Who would she be expected to submit to? Who would receive her title? It was already late, but Sarah felt as though she couldn’t breathe. The restrictions that came with being a Princess were suffocating. So she snuck out of the castle. Yes, snuck out, of her own castle, because ladies don’t walk around at ungodly hours, Sarah thought with an eyeroll. Stupid council. Breath Sarah, just breath, she told herself, as she stood out in the garden in nothing more than a negligee. She had taken the omega staircase, so she wouldn’t get seen by anyone. Why was life this hard? She really wished she could talk to her mother. She always knew what to do. Sarah silently walked around on her bare feet, smelling the flowers as she went. Their scent always calmed her down. The garden was her favorite place around here. “Who’s there!” Sarah demanded, when she heard a creek behind her, when no one answered, she continued, “Show yourself, unless you have some kind of death wish!” “Alright, alright, calm down,” A handsome man stepped out of the shadows. Tall, dark, and handsome, as they say. She let her eyes trail his body. He was all muscle. He wasn’t even wearing a shirt, only pants that were slung dangerously low on his hips. Her eyes trailed the line of his abs, disappearing into his pants. “Who are you?” she asked, still keeping up her fighting stance. “Marcus,” he replied with a crooked grin on his face. That made Sarah give pause. He must have come with the men who’d arrived for the trials. He was big, too big to be a mere warrior, but if he had been an Alpha, he would have stated his title. They all liked to do that, the pompous pricks, flaunt their titles. “Who are you?” the man asked. Shit! She couldn’t tell him who she was. She was out in the garden at night half naked, if any of the other candidates knew…or worse the press or council… “I’m Alexandra,” she stated, trying desperately to stay in the shadows, though when he stepped closer, he kept his eyes on hers. She had to give it to him. He had the decency to look in her eyes instead of at her outfit. “Do you always walk around half naked?” He asked with a smirk, as his gaze dropped to her erect n*****s. Asshole! “Do you always stalk young women at night?” She shot back at him with a scowl on her face. “Only the pretty ones,” he winked at her. “Oh please, keep your charm for the upper-ranked floozies,” she scoffed, looking away. The audacity of this man! For some reason, Sarah felt herself attracted to him. That was crazy, the man was a complete stranger. A hot one, but he could be some kind of serial killer for all she knew. “So you’re not then?” he asked. “Not what?” Sarah stepped back after realizing how close he was standing to her. If he was going to say a floozy she would rip him a new one. “Upper ranked?” “What makes you say that?” she asked, wondering what about her screamed omega. “Hmm,” Marcus hummed, “I saw you coming out of the servant entrance. Kind of gave it away,” “There you have it then, I’m a servant, and you Sir, are a women stalking pervert.” Sarah stated, before turning around, getting ready to leave. She didn’t want to talk to him any longer, though the way he was standing near her…was turning her on. Why was her body betraying her like this?! He let out a booming laugh, before talking. Again. “Nah, I don’t buy it. You’ve got too much of a hot body to not at least be a warrior,” Sarah turned on her heel and started blushing profusely. When she turned around, his eyes were trailing up and down her body, leaving a scorching trail on her skin. “Do you always continue talking even when the other person has stopped listening! And would you at least have the decency to stop looking at my body? It doesn’t belong to you!” She scoffed, glaring at him. “Please, don’t pretend you weren’t checking me out just seconds ago, and if you weren’t listening, why are you replying?” he stated with a smirk. “I was NOT checking you out. Besides, in a room full of men you would be the last one I would notice,” Sarah held her nose up in the air. She was obviously lying. He was the most handsome man she had ever seen and she had seen quite a few. “If you say so,” he smiled, walking closer to her again. She wanted to slap that grin right off his face. The final straw came when he let his eyes trail the length of her body again. “Stop. Looking.” she grated out, stepping into his personal space. “Make me,” he smirked as his warm breath caressed her face. Sarah didn’t know what possessed her, but the next moment, she smashed her lips to his in a smoldering kiss.
