Chapter 2: Nathan the Rude Guy

"Anna!"

I heard my mom screamed my name as I passed out. I felt so weak, I could not even open my eyes. I felt an arm wrapped around my body.

"Honey, call the ambulance!"

This time I heard my dad said. I tried so hard to open my eyes but I failed. But I knew that I'm not fully pass out, at least I could still hear everything around me.

I was in my room when I heard my mom yelled from the kitchen "Anna, the food is ready!"

I made my way downstairs to the kitchen when my vision started to blur. I couldn't see clearly, my head suddenly went spinning around. I held the hand of the staircase as I carefully walked down. But then I lost my balance and passed out, falling from the stairs, that's when I heard my mom screamed my name.

I felt my body was moved, probably my dad taking me to the hospital. I still didn't know what was happening to me. This had never happened to me before. My eyes were still closed, but I could hear the sound of the ambulance. My head hurt a lot, that's when everything went black.

I woke up to see the white ceiling. Hospital. My eyes were looking for my mom and dad, but there were not there. I saw the I.V needles, stuck on my arm. I tried to speak but my voice won't come out. Then I heard someone talking outside the room, I recognized it was my dad's voice.

"Can you do something for her? Please? We will do everything, we will pay for the treatments, the surgery, everything. Just please save her" I heard my dad said.

I didn't know what he was talking about, but I know it's something about the illness I got. Probably a very serious illness.

"We will do our best, Sir. But it's not as easy as it looks. She got this illness called meningitis where the membranes of her brain and spinal cord got infected" I heard the doctor said.

I know that illness, I have heard it before. It's a very dangerous illness that can cause deaths. Deaths.

"We will pay everything, we will do everything to see her get well"

"I will do my best, but I can't promise you anything. I'll need to do CT scan of her head and see if we can do the surgery"

I sighed. I was scared. I never knew I would have a serious illness, I thought it only happens in movies. I heard the door opened, there stood my mom and dad. I quickly closed my eyes, pretending that I was still sleeping. I felt a hand held my hand, I knew it was my mom's hand.

"You're going to be okay, honey. I promise" I heard my mom whispered to me.

ANNA'S POV

My alarm went off. I woke up and let out a sigh. I got up and did my daily routines. Take a shower, singing my favorite song, brush my teeth, get dressed, and headed downstairs to have my breakfast. I reached the table when I saw my mom smiling at me.

"Morning princess" my dad greeted.

"Morning daddy, mommy" I smiled at them.

I felt slightly better than before, even though I still get headache like everyday. 2 years since I got this illness, and I'm surprised that I'm still alive. I finished my breakfast and kissed my parents as I headed to the front door, ready to go.

My house was not that far from the university so I walk everyday. It's just so nice walking in the morning, fresh air, and it gave me the positivity to start the day. I reached the university and took a deep breath.

2 more years, Anna. I thought.

I walked to my locker and put my things there. I took my schedule list and realized that it's Tuesday. Tuesday consisted with only 1 subject, and guess what.. It's Science. And that means, I'm gonna sit beside Nathan for 6 hours today. How cool is that? Knowing that I might get another shots from him.

"Morning everyone"

Mr. Jimmy greeted. I sat down on my seat, of course Nathan was already beside me. He had his fringe down which made him look so cute. Wait, why am I saying this?

"What the f**k are you looking at?!" Nathan snapped, raising his eyebrows.

"Nothing"

"I told you not to look at me or even talk to me, nerd!"

I sighed. "Calm down, Nathan"

"Don't you dare to call my name! My name is too good to be mentioned by a nerd like you!"

I shook my head and decided to just shut my mouth, avoiding any fights with him. I'm not in the mood anyway.

Mr. Jimmy started the lesson. Science is my favorite subject so I paid much attention. I heard soft snores came out from Nathan, he was sleeping. Seriously how could he sleeps in the class? Knowing that Mr. Jimmy might catch him sleeping during his class.

"Sykes? Are you sleeping in my class?"

Just when I thought of that, Mr. Jimmy caught him. Nathan blinked immediately, back to reality.

"Erm what?"

"Are you sleeping in my class?" he glared at Nathan.

"What? No, of course no. Why would I?" Nathan chuckled nervously.

"Okay then answer my question. What is human's most vital organ?"

Nathan thought for a second, obviously didn't know the answer as he didn't pay attention to the class.

"Erm kidney?" Nathan guessed.

Mr. Jimmy raised his eyebrows, clearly indicating that Nathan's answer is incorrect. I could see Nathan got nervous.

"Brain" I whispered, very quietly.

Well, why not help someone who needs help though?

"Oh erm brain!" Nathan finally said.

"Well done Sykes, now if I see you sleeping in my class again, I won't let you in" Mr. Jimmy said.

Nathan sighed of relief. Mr. Jimmy continued teaching. Nathan won't dare to sleep in his class again. The class ended in the next 6 hours. I went to my locker to take my stuff and headed to the front gate when I saw Nathan walking towards me. Now what?

"Listen to me, nerd. The thing in the class was not like what you think. I knew the answer was brain, I just wanted to trick him a bit. I'm not stupid if you thought so. So don't think that I owe you something because that's not gonna happen. Don't be a smart-ass, I don't need your help!" Nathan said to me then walked away.

Okay that really hurts. That boy doesn't know how to thank someone. Why can't he just simply thank me instead of making up stuff like that. Now I regret helping him, I won't do that again next time.

I saw him walked towards this girl, I know that girl. Her name is Leah. He pulled her closer to him, snogging her in front of everyone. Literally eating her face off. Yikes.
