Charlotte POV Ty looked like he could have been knocked over by a feather. Considering I had just told him I was married after being gone for a little over a week was definetly giving him the shock of a lifetime. Mitch and Heath chose this moment to climb out of the Escalade they had parked next to the truck. Ty instinctively took a step back just in time to walk into the front door swinging open. Randy appeared on the porch. Randy was Ty's long term unofficial boyfriend. He was the true definition of a red head lumberjack man. He had bright red hair and beard and a built body to match. Randy traveled regularly for work but when he wasn't traveling he could be found at Gravestone, mooning over Ty and making some of the best food I had ever had. " Ty you didn't mention Charlotte was bringing guests," he drawled in his southern twang. He stepped forward, completely ignoring Vincent and pulling me into the usual bear hug. He patted my head before releasing my in exchange for Ty's hand, who was currently doing a great impression of a fish out of water. " Um- She- I mean they-" Ty shook his head, his curls bouncing as he worked to process the bomb I had just dropped on him. " Vincent is my husband," I told Randy, his reaction mimicking Ty for a moment but he managed to recover much quicker. " Oh congratulations sweety! I knew you'd find a true catch one day. I had expected to be invited to the wedding but I can forgive you for that considering who you married," Randy gushed hugging me again. " Thanks Randy. Sorry about not inviting you but it was all kind of sudden," I chuckled. From behind Randy I could hear Ty snort at my comment. " Well you can catch us up after I fix us some tea. I think Ty needs a moment to process anyway," Randy said glancing over his shoulder at Ty who was now rubbing his temples and pacing a small section of the porch. " That's fine Randy. I'm gonna go grab my things from the cabin real quick and we'll meet you back here," I called over my shoulder as I started across the yard for the path to the cabins. I could hear Vincent, Heath, and Mitch following. We'd only made it a few steps down the path before the silence was broken. " What the hell was that?" Vincent asked, his shock clear in his voice. " I have so many questions," Mitch chuckled from farther back. " I'm trying to figure out how we ended up in a rom com," Heath grumbled. There was light chuckling behind me as I rolled my eyes, hurrying down the path and onto the small porch of my cabin. I slipped the key from over the door, quickly opening it and ducking through. It was the same as I had left it after finding out about Andre. The bed still sat unmade, a pile of clean laundry still tossed on the couch waiting to be folded. My backpack was laying across the kitchenettes counter, books spilling from the half zipped pouch. My dirty work boots were even still laying beside the door, dried mud still clinging to the soles. It was hard to believe that less than two weeks had passed since I had been here last and it felt like it had been an eternity. As I stood there taking it in, I realized everyone behind me had gotten very quiet. I turned finding three very confused men standing behind me, each one eyeing a different area of the cabin. They all were in a similar state of disbelief standing together in front of the door. " What? Haven't you ever seen a cabin before?" I asked turning back to the one room home I had come to love. " You lived here?" Heath asked, disbelief coloring his voice. " Yeah, for almost two years. Ty let me stay here after he hired me as a field hand during my freshman year," I told them pulling my old suitcase from under the bed. " Didn't your parents... you know, provide for you?" Mitch asked in disbelief as he leaned forward, peaking through the only doorway into the small bathroom. I felt my heart sink as the pain of their disapproval of my choices resurfaced. " They weren't exactly happy with my choices," I grumbled tossing the few remaining clothes from the dresser into the suitcase. " You were in college?" Vincent had moved from the door, now standing in the far corner at the kitchenette, my economics and basic accounting textbooks in his hand. " Yeah. Business and finance management," I said ducking my head as I headed for the couch for the rest of my clothes. I never thought that having them here would mean so many questions. We barely knew each other and Vincent didn't really strike me as the person that really cared about other peoples personal lives. They were all standing there, their mouths agape as I continued packing, the heat in my cheeks growing with every moment of uncomfortable silence that passed. As I zipped the suitcase closed it was like the trance they were in broke, all of them moving to help in one way or another but I could tell from the looks on their faces something had just changed. Vincent POV I zipped Charlottes backpack closed, tossing the bulging bag over my shoulder. This girl was continuing to surprise me but this, this was more like a punch in the gut. Charlotte, who was refined and strong, had lived in a one room cabin while attending college and working. She had been on her own for everything and this made my stomach turn. I had assumed her life was privledged and her parents had catered to her every need but I had just been proven wrong. Charlotte deserved so much more than parents that were willing to cut their child off for attending college and I was going to be the person to give it to her.
