“I listen to your commands because it is you. The very essence of being attached to you, powers my soul. People often argue that the strongest of strength could be achieved by anyone who is looking for vengeance, but its my love for you that burns the flames of strength in me.”
-Neha M.
ADONIS’ P.O.V.
I stood at the huge fortress which surrounded our town. The massive fortified walls were used as a boundary which separated the town from the dark forest of Bransville. Over a century, there has been a lot of wars that we fought from the creatures that subsisted outside the realms of our world. The darkness of the forests reminded me of them as they hold nothing but contempt for our bring.
The weather has certainly gotten colder for autumn. My lanky hairs drifted in the direction of the wind. As I was immersed in observing the huge land of luscious trees before me, I couldn’t notice the Beta Jonah approaching me.
The posts in our clan were based on hereditary. The strongest houses of our clans served as the leaders or jury to be precise. Above them all was my position, The Alpha.
I had taken over as the Alpha five years ago. In those five years, I had witnessed the most inhumane and traumatic things in my life. But, things did change for me when I saw her. She was chosen by the moon goddess herself to be my mate. My inner wolf, Sylvias gets excited whenever she’s around. The love of my life. She has always been by my side and supported me. Now that I think about it, I realize that it’s hard to fulfil all the responsibilities that come with being an Alpha, but it’s worth it. After all, I get to protect the thing I love the most, my fellow wolves.
“Taking a stroll, your highness? May I join you?” The voice interrupted my thoughts. I turned to observe my Beta Jonah walking towards me.
“You can drop the act here.” I reminded him to not be so formal to me when we are alone. After all, we were buddies.
“Where’s Dimitri (Delta)?”
He stood adjacent to me and then spoke, “I asked him to come, but he asked me to do it myself.”I looked at him with perplexed expression evident on my face and then asked, “Do what yourself?”
He elbowed me as he asked, “Adonis, is there something going on between you and Venus?” Muffled up, I just stared at him and hoped he won’t ask again.
There indeed were a lot of things going on between us but I couldn’t tell him yet. But it wasn’t wrong since she was soon going to be my wife.
“We just kissed. I initiated it.” I finally told him.
“Huh? What? Are you serious? You aren’t allowed to touch her until you’re married. You shouldn’t even be meeting her,” He reminded me. I simply smiled as I spoke, “That won’t be necessary. I will take care of not to touch her again before the marriage.”
“Okay. How did she respond?” He asked. He seemed concerned for me. He probably thought she rejected my advances which is definitely what happened.
“She didn’t say anything ...” I exclaimed with a sigh.
“Nothing at all? She didn’t react?” He enquired again.
I tried to recall her expression and then spoke, “She looked surprised, and her face was bright red.”
“Was she really?” He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
I snickered as I exclaimed, “This isn’t one of my fantasies, pal. She was bright red ...” I then glared at the shooting star and confessed, “My love for Venus was always there in my heart, from the moment I saw her. And when I touched her, I felt it ignite and glow brightly. I want her to know how I feel as the alpha of our clan, and everything important that happens with me.”
“Adonis, I’m sure she lo..” He tried to say something.
“Huh?” I asked curiously as to not being able to catch what he meant. He then patted my shoulder as he spoke. “I don’t stay by your side just because you’re the Alpha of our clan, you know?”
I smiled as I admitted, “I know that.”
~ CENTRAL LIBRARY OF HAMPLETON TOWN ~
“I have collected all the books regarding potions, Deon,” Venus told the guy who worked in the library with her. He smiled to see how pristine her work was. All the books were neatly placed on the shelves.
On the other hand, Dimitri, Delta of their clan observed her from outside the door.
“What could you two be up to?” Dimitri asked both of them.
Since he was loud, Venus gestured him to stay silent by pressing her index finger against her lips.
“The owner of the library isn’t doing well and she told us to make sure there is no ruckus made in the library. Hence, you need to be quieter,” Venus instructed. “She’s honestly not even in a good mood as well.”
“But some good tea always lifts the fatigue from the shoulders, right?” Dion suggested. Dimitri laughed because of Deon’s humorous comment.
“Since this is a library, it is mandatory that you maintain silence. Don’t get me fired, you two!” Venus let out in a quite frustrated stance.
“Alpha has ordered for me to train you in warfare. I could get severely punished if you won’t start moving.” Dimitri said in all seriousness.
Venus gave a nod and requested the owner for the half-day leave. After getting done with packing her jute bag, she went out with Dimitri to the training grounds.
“Hey, you were actually really quick. I didn’t think you’d get everything done so much faster after speaking Alpha’s name, ” commented Dimitri.
Venus’s face turned peachy as she was embarrassed. While still appearing quite flustered, Venus managed to speak, “Yes, he is going to be my husband. I would never defy anything he had planned for me. I love him.”
The whole evening she practised with all her might. She received several braises on her hands and legs but that didn’t stop her.
Every time she’d get knocked on to the ground, she’d speak, “I am going to do this. I want to be a worthy Luna. I will earn the respect of my clan by knocking my enemies and being strong enough to stand beside him.”
Her determination and zealousness for becoming stronger was deeply motivated by her deep affectionate feelings for Adonis.
Venus’s charm attracted Dimitri. After observing her innocence and affectionate feelings for Adonis, he too became infatuated with her. After training for the whole six hours or so, she walked on the training grounds with Dimitri.
“It’s pretty far for being on the castle grounds, huh?” Dimitri tried to initiate the conversation as it had been gravely quiet lately. Venus was disheartened to see her lacking skills. That’s why she had been quiet the whole time.
“Hm. She’s gone completely silent.” The man thought to himself.
As Venus took a stroll on the ground, he followed behind her. It was mandatory for him to do so. Alpha himself had asked him to guard Venus beside training her. While she walked in front of him, he tried to stretch his hand in her direction to get the chance to hold her hand.
Before he could hold her hand, he heard a loud sound of the steps of horses and then a loud call.
“Venus!” Adonis called out to her. Dimitri was startled to suddenly get caught in between and maintained a distance from Venus.
Adonis stopped his horse right where Venus was standing and smiled to see her.
“Well, it is our Alpha. You returned earlier today,” Dimitri remarked. Adonis shook his head, and exclaimed, “No, I believe we arrived on time.” Soon the Beta arrived behind him as well.
“Anyway, what are you two doing? Aren’t you guys done with your training?” Adonis expressed his concern. Venus quietly stood behind Dimitri, observing everything but not responding. Her face was as red as a cherry. She was blushing hard to see him ride a horse.
“Come on, Missy! Why are you hiding?” Dimitri enquired.
While placing her hands on her chest, Venus whispered, “I ... I don’t know. I was just surprised.”
“Excuse me?” Dimitri asked while scratching his head. Venus just couldn’t look at Adonis. After the kiss that Venus and Adonis shared, she had gotten extremely shy and found it hard to face him.
Dimitri laughed when she whispered into his ear why she was embarrassed. Thereafter, he blocked Adonis’s pathway and asked Venus to run away.
“What’s going on?” Adonis asked as he didn’t understand why Venus suddenly galloped away. Dimitri didn’t help Venus because she was shy. He instead helped her escape because he wanted her for himself. While smiling cunningly he remarked, “It looks like she ran away.”
“Because you made her do it, fool!” Adonis lost his cool.
“I did? Oh, please.” Dimitri tried to shrug off the blame. “She doesn’t want to see you now.”
Adonis finally got off his horse and hurried towards the forest to catch his bride. Dimitri watched Adonis’s cape as he scampered towards the forest.
