'Why didn't I learn to treat everything like it was the last time. My greatest regret was how much I believed in the future.' -Jonathan Safran Foer
The tentacles firmed their grip over the man. The orb had completely transformed into a woman with tentacles.
She was no ordinary woman that was for certain. Perhaps, a witch. She was dressed in all black. Her appearance was not bad either, good enough to charm any man.
"They call me Ursula. I am the witch of the woods. Not even a leaf drops on the ground without my wish." The woman disclosed.
Dimitri was unsure of what the witch's motive was in having him accompany her to the border.
"Fair maiden, why do you bring me here? What have I done to deserve this?" The man glimpsed at the miraculous creature and was baffled to discover her golden eyes.
He has never seen eyes of that colour in particular. She was an extremely beautiful woman, but that alone was not only an extraordinary thing about her.
She was extremely cunning and vicious. The lady strode gradually in his direction and interrogated, "Are you not tired of being pushed around by a man of equal strength? The same man stole your love, became the leader and demeaned you. If I'm providing you with the chance to change all that, won't you?"
Unsure of what the woman was after, he raised a question, "Why do you wish to help me? What is in it for you?"
She smiled while the grasp of her tentacles over his body solidified. The response wasn't something he had expected of her. She hugged the man from behind and whispered into his ear, "You see, I have been in love too. I am exposed to the same misfortune as yours. The man I love will be married off to another woman if you won't hurry in your resolve to wage the war against your pack."
"Who is this man you're referring to? Nobody except the Alpha is getting married in the following week." Dimitri realised. "Oh! Now, I understand. The object of your affection is Alpha Adonis."
The beautiful wish placed a gentle kiss on his cheek as she announced, "Since childhood, he had been extremely fond of spending his time while strolling through the forest. Ever since he grew up he stopped visiting me at all. I grew extremely anxious with every passing day. After spending several years in the misery of not being able to see him, I grew desperate and anxious. He finally visited the forest. He had grown into such a handsome man. I followed him in the form of wind. I caressed his cheeks and kissed his lips, but he didn't notice because of the company he had brought with him. The woman named Venus. I grew remarkably envious of the woman, and decided to revert to the same old tree."
"I do comprehend your pain, but I can't endanger my clan for the sake of our unrequited love." He declared.
The witch's lips stretched into a smile as she made her intentions clear to him.
"Beautiful youth with supple skin. She has everything that I wish could retrieve from the extended pointers of time. Nonetheless, I might have to adapt to some unjust means to get to my love, but I will do it."
The delta shook his head as he confessed, "You won't succeed. I won't help you with such an unreasonable thing. My love for Venus isn't as greedy as yours. I do hate that proud Alpha, but that doesn't mean I will endanger my clan for that."
"Oh, you will." The woman declared and once again turned into an orb. Dimitri's arms were finally free from the start grasp of the witch's tentacles.
While he rubbed his arms to circulate the proper flow of blood, a thick white smog covered him. The smog completely enthralled him to the point that it began to smother him.
"H… Help. I can't breathe. You cunning woman! What have you done to me?" Dimitri enquired with teary eyes.
"Say that you will help me." The voice echoed in his mind while he struggled to walk his way out of the dense smog.
In response to the witch, he shook his head as he constantly made endeavours to resist the temptation of letting go of the struggle, and succumb to the witch's proposal.
Soon what followed was a loud screech. His ears began to hurt.
"Stop it! Stop the torture… I can't take this anymore." He said as he fell on his knees.
The squealing finally stopped and the same feminine voice echoed in his head asking him to confess.
"Say it! Say that you will help me."
His eyes had gotten red due to irritation from the smog. Consequently, he ended up vowing to do something he would have never even considered in his right mind.
"I will do it."
The smog disappeared and the woman reappeared right behind him. She paced towards him and leaned in to embrace the man.
While he struggled to grasp the situation, she whispered some chants into his ear and said, "Will you be more willing now?"
Dimitri nodded as he glared at the military camps set up by the humans on their part of the land.
"Good! Now, all you have to do is head straight to the camp, and offer them your assistance." The witch clarified and disappeared into thin air.
Dimitri had no conscience of his own at that moment. He simply stood there for a long minute and then transformed into a wolf.
As he hurried inside the camp, he was surrounded by the soldiers with gruesome weapons. He reverted into his human form and proposed his plan while all the guns were pointed at his head.
Meanwhile, Venus pondered where Dimitri had disappeared to. On her way back home, she bought a baguette and other items from the boulangerie that her mother instructed to bring in the morning.
As she walked out of the boulangerie, a little girl collided with her. She picked up the little child, patted the dust off her back and asked in a tender voice, "Are you okay, dear child?"
The girl snivelled as she pointed her index finger at her knee. It had a little scrape. Venus held the child in her arms and cajoled her, "Dont cry, love. I will take you to the infirmary shortly. It will be alright."
The little child embraced the woman. As they walked into the infirmary, she encountered Adonis. He was getting his wound in his arm bandaged.
Since he was engulfed in having a conversation with Jonah, he failed to observe her presence. Niti prioritized getting the child's injury taken care of.
The nurse informed her that it was just a light scrape, and handed her over a prescription for subduing the pain. Thereafter, she band-aided the child's knee.
Venus paid her medication bill and then held the child in her arms again to take her back to her room.
"You are going to be our luna, right?" The child asked innocently. Venus didn't know how to respond appropriately as shedding want to come out as proud.
"That's what I have been working hard to be." Venus poured out her heart to the child as she walked to her home.
The girl smiled as she declared, "It will be for the best that you become our Luna since you are both strong and kind."
Venus simply expressed her gratitude to the child for her kind comment. Abruptly, their conversation was hindered by Adonis who approached Venus by patting on her shoulder.
"Hey!"
Venus turned her gaze at him and greeted him back. He seemed a bit disappointed when he remarked, "Why didn't you inform me you were there at the infirmary?"
He took the child from her arms and waddled on the street with the rays of the setting sun reflecting in her eyes.
"I deduced from observing the tense atmosphere that you were probably having a serious conversation. That's why I didn't want to intervene."
"That's silly. He will be your husband soon." The little girl interjected. They both unexpectedly became quiet as the remark made them flustered up.
Soon the child was returned to her home as they reached her lock. Venus' house wasn't far away. Therefore, Adonis decided to drop her home.
"You know about what that child said. I think I would agree with that. I will be your husband soon, Venus." Adonis presented before her his genuine sentiments to her.
As they walked shoulder to shoulder, his arm brushed against her suppose skin. The contact somehow ignited in her the confidence to speak up how she felt in the subject.
"I will be your wife. That is indeed true, but I will still be a part of your life. I want it to be that way. I don't want my existence in your life to arbitrate in your any activity. That's how I wish to support you."
He simply smiled and revealed, "The thought alone that you think about me makes me happy, Venus. While holding that child today, I somehow grasped a faint connotation of being a father. I can't wait to have our children."
Venus' smiled through her eyes as she spoke, "You will be a great father, Alph… I mean, Adonis."
He chuckled as he held her waist and placed a warm dewy kiss upon her cheek. Venus got all flustered up while he embraced her in his arms while confessing, "I love you, Venus. I want to engrave these words onto my chest and my heart. That's how sincere my feelings are for you."
Venus finally used her eyes and brought her face closer to his. She wanted him to claim her lips. He just did that.
As he moved towards her, she felt his breath upon her face. Though she was scared as she had ever had contact of such sort with anyone, it was alright since it was Adonis (her soon to be husband), she believed.
