"You couldn't have told the King that," Luthor shook her shoulders desperately. "I know he is not the best man in the Kingdom but what you told him shouldn't have left your mouth.
"And why not?" Anya huffed, annoyed that Luthor disapproved of her words.
"Because it's as good as a rejection. A dragon becomes desperate and hopeless," Luthor sighs and hands her another section of the book to read.
"He wasn't desperate and hopeless on my birthday," Anya rolled her eyes.
"The human heart is too complicated. Especially the heart and mind of a teenage human girl," Luthor pointed out a piece of text that says so.
"Are you turning into the lizard?"
Luthor narrowed his eyes at her, "Not funny."
"What? You're repeating his words!"
"Dragons that have a human for a beloved are pitied," Luthor closes the book and puts a vial in front of her. "Mix this with a strand of your hair."
"Pitied? A king, pitied?" she scoffed and mixed her strand of hair in the vial. A pink cloud rises from the vial and forms the shape of a human heart.
"That's your heart. At least, a replica of what it looks like inside of you. Those dragons are pitied because human girls are not like dragon girls. Dragon females will instantly be entranced by their beloved and want to spend the rest of their lives with them. Human females are more independent. You need to conquer their heart before anything else."
"In other words....? English please," Anya yawned.
Luthor began to inspect Anya's cloud heart, "In other words, the dragon beloved will have to make the human fall in love with him/her. Gain their trust and love. That's the always door for them to open up to you."
Anya blew away her cloud heart before Luthor could finish inspecting it, "You're saying that I was supposed to wake up after Arin kidnapped me, fall head over heels with him, and instantly feel physically and sexually attracted to him? People need a reality check. You can't love someone a few seconds after you met them."
"Well...." Luthor trails off.
"NO. So that's what dragons do? Fall in love within the first few seconds?" Anya refused to believe so.
"There is nothing wrong with it. Our bond is something we cannot ignore. It drives us crazy with passion for our beloved."
"That's it. The bond FORCES the two to be together. That isn't love. The bond only creates a s****l attraction between the victim and the dragon. Have you ever thought about that?" She asked crossly. It didn't fit right with her that the bond forms an instant love.
"No...I guess no one does. We just go with the flow," Luthor shrugged. "Male dragons are too dominant and possessive toward their female beloved so it's impossible to question it."
"Please, just because a few girls find dominance and possessiveness attractive, does not make it love," Anya grabbed the other vial Luthor was handing him. "Anyways, you say male dragons are dominant and possessive...wouldn't you fall in that group?"
Luthor choked and the tips of his ears turned a shade of pink. "I-I-I can't guarantee I'll be the same....I-I wouldn't know because I don't have a beloved."
Anya grinned, "So you're telling me that if you see another male hugging your beloved you would let it pass?"
"Of course not," Luthor said, his cheeks a fiery red.
"I guess I should stop...You know, before you turn into a tomato," Anya burst into a fit of laughter as Luthor scowled and turned away. Anya tapped his shoulder but he still wouldn't face her. "You know, it's not a bad thing to love someone you haven't even met yet..."
"Excuse me?" Luthor faced her with a clear shock in his eyes. He was not used to Anya speaking so seriously.
Anya's face bounced back cheerfully, "It's nothing. How about we try an ice spell?"
*****
As the days turned into months Anya began to comprehend why Khaleesi held an imprisoned look in her eyes. As it turns out, Lucia and Hydreich were quite nice and gentle in the beginning but as Anya's training to be sent to the capital intensified they were cold, cruel, and distant. Always battering and bruising Anya's spirit.
In one particular instance, Anya was learning how to properly hold a teacup for hours on end. Her hand cramped and she dropped the cup, scalding tea fell on her ankle, creating a scar. Lucia was enraged and disappointed that she slapped Anya in front of everyone. Luthor stood idly to the side, his hands balling to protect his little sister. Over the months they've developed a sibling bond.
She was sent to her room with no food. Each time she made a mistake it was the same. Eventually, Anya became used to this. Her once bubbly and sarcastic self boiled down to a refined gloomy lady. She grew into beauty but each time she would look in the mirror she could see a similar imprisoned look in her eyes. Luthor could no longer ground her as he once promised. It was too late...Lucia and Hydreich were even more strict to Anya then they had been to Khaleesi. And so, ever since her fourteenth birthday, no one has seen the confined Anya.
Yet, Anya still remained firm that this was the only way to reach the capital and therefore, she could escape to the fairy kingdom. On the Eve of the day they were sending Anya to the capital, House Hydra gathered around to discuss important matters.
"Anastasia, you've received all your training necessary to become Queen. But you must remember to act cold, calm, and calculating. The High court is a dangerous place with scheming people everywhere. Luckily, you'll have King Arin by your side to protect you. Make Khaleesi proud, make your sister proud," Lucia wiped away her wet tears from her eyes.
"You'll make High House Hydra grow in the capital. You'll need to make our heir line grow. We need promising offspring from you and the King," Hydreich rested his hands on Anya's shoulders. She did her best not to flinch. "Luthor will be sent with you. He will be your protector."
"King Arin will be waiting for your arrival at the palace....Do not dare to fail us..."
