Season 1: Survival Chapter 5: "The Shopkeeper's Secret" Kampala, Uganda. 2005. Akua did something that made Kofi's jaw drop in shock. She walked calmly out from behind the crates and approached the figure from the alleyway. "Can I help you?" she asked, her voice steady and confident. The figure's eyes narrowed as he looked at Akua. "I'm looking for a boy and a girl," he said. "They're hiding in this shop." Akua smiled sweetly. "I don't know what you're talking about," she said. The figure's face twisted with anger. "Don't lie to me," he snarled. "I know they're in here." Just as the figure was about to attack Akua, the shopkeeper intervened. He was a tall, thin man with a kind face. "Hey, hey, no fighting in my shop," he said, his voice firm but gentle. The figure turned to the shopkeeper, his eyes blazing with anger. "Mind your own business," he snarled. The shopkeeper stood his ground. "I am minding my own business," he said. "And my business is to protect my customers." Kofi watched in amazement as the shopkeeper stood up to the figure. He had never seen anyone stand up to a bully like that before. The figure's face twisted with rage, but he seemed to think better of attacking the shopkeeper. He turned and stormed out of the shop, leaving Kofi and Akua shaken but relieved. The shopkeeper turned to them and smiled. "Are you two okay?" he asked. Akua nodded, still looking shaken. "Yes, thank you," she said. The shopkeeper nodded. "You're welcome," he said. "My name is Mr. Kaggwa, by the way. And you two are...?" Kofi and Akua exchanged a glance. They had never told anyone their names before. But there was something about Mr. Kaggwa that made them trust him. "I'm Kofi," Kofi said, his voice barely above a whisper. Akua nodded. "And I'm Akua," she said. Mr. Kaggwa smiled. "Welcome, Kofi and Akua," he said. "You're safe now. You can stay here with me until you figure out what to do next." Kofi and Akua exchanged a glance. They had never had anyone offer them help before. They didn't know what to say. But before they could respond, Mr. Kaggwa's expression turned serious. "But there's something I need to tell you," he said. "Something that could put you both in danger." Kofi's heart began to pound as he wondered what Mr. Kaggwa was going to say. And then, just as Mr. Kaggwa was about to reveal the secret, a loud knock at the door interrupted him. "Who could that be?" Mr. Kaggwa muttered, getting up to answer the door. Kofi and Akua exchanged a nervous glance. Who was at the door? And what did they want? To be continued...
