Chapter Eleven Dawn was breaking when I emerged from Mistress Reyna’s surprisingly modern stone house. Exhausted almost to the point of collapse after ascending all those steep stairs I closed the front door and the screen behind me and leaned woozily against the wall beside them. Deadbolts thumped by themselves as they had at every stage of my journey in and out. Too tired to wonder whether this was magic or technology I panted for breath and tried to recuperate.
