CHAPTER SIXTEEN

2204 Words

CHAPTER SIXTEEN Sitting in the cottage, Stella watched the time tick by. She’d expected Vaughn would be home by eight at the latest to meet with his mother, but eight had passed by, and nine, too. Now it was nearly ten and she’d given up any hope of this discussion ever happening, now or in the future. She’d tried to call him twice more, but he hadn’t called her back. She felt frustrated beyond words that he’d broken his promise. Also, she felt intensely emotional about being ignored, because that was what it amounted to. Vaughn was stonewalling her. He could have found a minute to call, or text. He couldn’t be that busy, especially not after office hours, when he’d be out ‘entertaining’ with Uncle Mike. Was that a car outside? Stella sprang to her feet as she heard the front door open.
