CHAPTER FOURTEEN At quarter to eight the next morning, Stella headed outside. She’d slept badly and felt worried and unsure about the session ahead. Her stress wasn’t helped by the low-grade nausea bubbling inside her as she headed to the waiting car – a steel-gray BMW with a driver she didn’t know at the wheel. The sickness was probably just nerves, she told herself. At least the early appointment had been a good excuse to miss breakfast and head straight out. Vaughn had gone to the house to get her purse. Anxiously, she peered down the path, hoping he’d come back with it before she left. Would it still be there, and would he find it?
