Chapter 12 Clement contemplated the display of weaponry on the walls and in glass cases around him. Quite a collection, though somewhat meaningless. Where were the references to religion? Where were the representations of the black man’s beliefs? What did he do when he wasn’t off making war or defending his women and children? If the curator of this museum thought this was all there was to the local natives then he was seriously misguided. He rubbed his wrist and flexed his aching fingers. There was always more. The mistake the curator, and his supply of collectors and thieves, had made was in not looking past the surface meaning of power.
