Prologue

Zavian walked into the small, cosy cafe, the fresh, rich aroma of coffee, chocolate and freshly baked cakes filling his nose. His stomach grumbled in hunger, and he took a bee-line to the counter, ready to place his order. After doing so, he took his usual seat by the window, and placing his hands behind his head, closed his stormy silver eyes. All he wanted was to get a moment of relaxation, after the long and tiring night he had gone through. Cafe Choco-latte was, no doubt, one of Zavian's most favorite places in town. After all, they served the best chocolate lattes, as it was obvious by the name. He loved the monotony of the place, everything always remained the same there; the same, familiar smiles greeted him with respect and admiration daily, the same mahogany tables, the soft cushioned chairs that seemed to be waiting for the customers to occupy them, and the familiar clicking noise of the cash register, cutting through the buzz created by chatting customers. However that particular day, the routine seemed to be broken, as something seemed oddly different. Zavian couldn't pin-point what it was; something about the place just seemed unnatural, even though it was in a positive way. It felt more comfortable and welcoming than it had ever felt before, and the place, for some uncanny reason, made him feel weirdly happy and calm. It had a new sense of serenity to it, a feeling that was completely foreign to the Warrior Knight. And Zavian most definitely wasn't used to feeling at peace. Yet something, or someone in that particular room was making him feel content, and oddly tranquil. He wanted to brush it off as paranoia or overthinking, even though his intuitions often proved to be correct owing to the supernatural gifts he was blessed with. He took in a deep breath, hoping he'd get distracted from that feeling in his gut, but it only made those feelings more dominant. Zavian caught onto a new kind of scent, something like a mixture of jasmines and roses, he believed. He felt his eyes changing from his natural gray to the dazzling greenish-blue, and this time, there wasn't even an obvious reason for it. He shut his eyes tightly, and willed them to revert back to their original silver gray, before finally he rose from his seat. Zavian carefully looked around, his predatory gaze scrutinizing and observing every single person in the room. He recognized most of the people sitting in there, as Dewhurst was quite a small town, and everyone knew almost everyone. His eyes scanned the entire room, before they finally set on one person: a quiet, blonde girl, sitting alone in the corner of the room, her face buried in a book. For some odd reason, he could not tear his eyes away from her; she intrigued him, as if something was drawing him towards her. He wanted to gain her attention, to somehow get her to meet his eye, as the Beast within him was already yearning for her. He felt as though she was the One, but nothing could be said for sure until he had made eye contact with her. He started to walk towards her, but the waiter suddenly arrived in front of him, blocking his view. "I'm sorry, Mr. Hayder. Did your food arrive too late? Do you need anything?" Chris asked, his face panic stricken and his baby blue eyes filled with worry, as he fixed his round spectacles with one hand while holding the tray of Zavian's breakfast with the other. Zavian let out a sigh in annoyance, involuntarily turning his attention to the scared brunette, and shook his head. "No, Chris. All's good. I was just going to the washroom," Zavian replied, forcing a smile. Relief crossed over Chris's features, and his mouth formed an 'oh'. "Well, then do you want me to bring your food back once you return?" Chris asked, his usual, excessively cheerful smile back on his lips. "Nah, it's fine. Just leave it here. Now if you would please excuse me," Zavian said, tapping Chris's shoulder before he walked around him, and towards the table his blonde was sitting at. However, he was too late. She was no longer sitting there. He looked around desperately, hoping to spot her on a different table, but there was no sign of her. Zavian walked around the entire café, his eyes searching for that one Blonde who had stolen his breath away, without even showing him her face. He even checked outside the building, but it was as if she had vanished into thin air. As if she had never been there. However, Zavian was the Warrior Knight of the only pack of Wolves in Dewhurst. And he wasn't one to give up so easily. He had spent years waiting for his mate, and if that Blondie was the One, he was going to find out. I will find you, Blondie. I promise. OoOoO
