Dan drove home, a sense of relief temporarily buoying his feelings. As much as he hated to consider it, he’d begun to suspect Darrel was behind the rash of problems. His stepbrother had a key to the house and from there, access to the garage. He’d been at the ranch this past weekend hanging around while Dan was out busy with branding and moving cattle to the higher pastures, leaving the truck behind. What he could not figure out was why. Oh, the younger man might resent the fact Dan had inherited the ranch, but hell, what claim could the kid really have? He was a stepchild and had not even arrived there until he was almost a teenager. He couldn’t have expected Dan Senior to split ownership between them could he?
