~01. She's gone.
Third person's POV. October 9th, 2007. His blond paws broke into the soil as he raced through the dark forest. His eyesight is the sharpest in his wolf form, which made him see clearly in the dark. He ran fast yet sturdy enough not to let the humans on his back fall off. The soft soil beneath his paws offered a gentle cushioning, like a springboard, propelling him to dash faster in the lush night. His fur glistened under the moonlight as the humans clung tightly to him, their hearts pounding with fear. It's anything but a thrilling race that they're used to as the blond wolf's powerful strides carry them deeper into the dark forest. The earthly scent of moss and fallen leaves filled the air, mingling with the crisp aroma of pine. The moon filtered through the dense canopy that the tall trees created, casting a mesmerizing dance of light and shadow on the forest ground. The vibrant green foliage created a breathtaking backdrop, painting the scene as nature's own masterpiece. Yet again, like always, Daisy was enthralled by the beauty the scary forest holds. A wild smile planted itself on her face, which made her eyes crinkle. Her brown hair slapped against her face as Redd, the blond wolf, sped by. She hovered above the little girl who sat in the front, shielding her with both arms by her side. Daisy gave up her hairband for her daughter; troubled by the continuous spiraling of her hair, she removed her hands to remove her hair from her face. A snap of a twig made her stiffen, scared she uttered to the blond wolf. "Run faster, Redd. They're catching up." Whilst still taking away the strands from her face. She turned to look behind them, trying to catch a glimpse of the wolves that were trailing after them as the moonlight offered little light, not apprised by a branch of tree which stuck out of the woods. By the time she became aware of it, it was already late. With the force and speed Redd moved with, the stuck out branch hit her hard against her neck. "Ah!" A shrilling high-pitched scream escaped her lips as she fell flat on the floor, her body creating a humping sound as she collided with the ground. "Mama!" The little girl who sat with her mother screamed out. By the time Redd noticed, a good distance had been created between them. He whirled around when he heard the sound of his mate and daughter screaming. His body stood straight in alert as he ran back to get his mate. He barked continuously in panic, scared of his mate. "Get off me," Daisy squealed out as a red-haired wolf jumped on her. She wiggled under him, using her hands to hit its back, trying to get it off her. The wolf snapped at her, blaring out its teeth at her face as saliva drew out. Her face scrunched up in disgust as she used her hand to pinch their ears. It let out a yelp, biting a chunk of her flesh off her hand as blood splattered on her face before slashing her hard through her purple gown, tearing her flesh with its paws, which created five gashes in her stomach. She screamed out in pain, before sighing in relief when she heard Redd's barks. Redd got to Daisy, just before the other wolves could catch up with them. Redd waggled its tail and the little girl caught on. She tightened her little hands around her father's neck, but not too tight enough to block his airway. Redd squatted down, his front legs as he rested his upper body on it while his behinds stood straight. He let out a boisterous growl as he jumped on the red-haired wolf, snapping its neck quicker than Daisy could blink. It barked out a whine when he saw his mate injured and bleeding. It bent its head and started to lick her wounds, trying to stop the blood that was gushing out of her. In order to help her, it had to let the human side out, its body snapping as the sound of bone crushing against the other rang out as it slowly morphed into the body of a man. "You're losing lots of blood, Dai." Robert said, squatting beside her in his birthday suit as he let out a panicked whine. "Mama," the little girl said, moving away from her father to her mother's embrace. "Mama," she said again, her mouth bent downwards as her eyes began to water. Daisy turned to her daughter with a loving gaze. She petted her daughter as silent tears streamed down her face. She knew she didn't have much time left. She glanced at her mate, Robert, who was also looking devastated. "It's going to be okay." She mouthed to him. Robert shook his head in pure agony as his eyes watered. "No, it's not. We need to get you out of here quick." Losing a mate is the worst thing that should happen to a werewolf. He would rather die with his mate than live without her. "Rob," Daisy let out a cough laced with blood, whilst patting her little girl's hair. "I can't, I'm dying. You have to take her and leave before the rest of the werewolves show up." "What? Are you mad!? I can't leave you, I can't live without you, I can't raise her without you." Robert cried out in dismay. Daisy smiled a sad one, "I love you, Robert. Keep our daughter safe and let her know I'll always be with her." She coughed again, puffing out more blood. Her heart rate began to slow down, "always and forever." She muttered lovingly to her mate, smiling lightly at him before closing her eyes and her hands laid limply by her side. Robert cried out as his wolf howled inside of him, pleading to be let out. He removed his daughter from his mate's stiff body as she cried out for her Mama. He carried his mate's body in his arms, taking her behind a big tree to prevent animals from feasting on her. He'll come back for her body tomorrow. He knelt down beside his now already dead mate's body, water blurred his eyes as he connected his lips to her forehead, already missing the tingling feelings that came with it. He closed his eyes in agony as tears rolled down his face, dropping on his dead mate's forehead. "Always, and forever." He whispered. Standing back up, he wiped his tear-face off before walking back to his daughter. "C'mon, baby. Time to go." He said, kneeling down to his daughter's height. Giving her a tight smile. "What of Mama?" She asked, cluelessly. Tears sprang to his eyes again as he cleared his throat, refusing to think about the fact that his mate was gone. Not knowing what to tell her, he shifted to his wolf to avoid talking or telling his daughter lies. Redd used his nuzzle to tap his daughter's leg, bending down slightly, gesturing for her to hop on his back. Wordlessly, she did. Redd picked up his pace, sensing the other park wolves were getting closer, and he needed to get his daughter to safety before coming for his mate's body. The realization just settled in. He had lost her, he lost his mate. He let out a loud heartbreaking howl that was filled with terror as a tear rolled down his eyes, getting soaked in his fur. His mate is gone.
