Winter. I was super f*****g hungry. But a meal with my CEO, on my first day was not exactly a cup of tea. However, he bought me food and left. Chicken sandwiches, rice noodles and chilli chicken. The non vegan food was perfect for my depriving appetitie. I sat there and had food comfortably before making my way to the canteen. The receptionist was a young girl, who looked fifteen, with a red cap and uniform, a huge smile planted on her face. The moment I reached there, it faded and she kept stammering. "Oh sorry to disturb, may I know your name?" I wanted to make friends, to be honest. One thing, I wasn't leaving this place for long. And two, I needed some criss cross connections so my desolate intorverted mine would walk out of its shell, like majestic mighty man said. His words did make sense to me. Nothing else. "I am Haira", she lifted her chest to show me the name tag. I smiled, "I am Winter" "I know", she scratched her neck, sinking those bunny teeth into her lower lip. She did? "You were the first person not to arrive on time here" Jesus christ. So I was the latecomer? "So we named you flake for fun" I choked on a toffee and forced a smile, "That is fine. Whose, the 'we"?" And god, out of a door came, the chefs, waiters, waitresses and finance manager. I met every Harry, Jake and Tom, with a wide grin on my face. "I should get going" "Do come", said, Mrs Fanny, a little woman in her fifties, appointed for making anything related with dough. "Right. I feel comfortable enough" It was like convinving myself that I was. Zues. 'Where is Mrs Winter, Jane?" "She is ....sitting on the couch...dozing off" Huh? "Wasn't she given any work today?" Mrs Jane looked sad, "No..the girl has to travel eight hours before reaching here. She lives quite faraway, next to the Kinsley's medical school" Ah. So that is one reason why she looks so tired in the pictures. "Fair enough. Arrange a lodge for her itself, in my apartment complex" "Umm sir?" "You heard me" I waved and she fled off without any questions. My hands were sweaty with all the work pending. There was a call from "Tulips and Strawberries', stating they needed a colour photoshoot with my ten models. Though I did want to complete it last week, I made the statement as eleven models, and added Winter's name. Immediately being appointed with no particular practice on group shoots, I didn't know whether she would be able to nail it, without acting oversmart, timid or jealous. But seeing her all fired up was my cue to take her in. She was a mystery box of knots. And I wanted to untie them slowily. "Sir?" Mrs Jane had interrupted my thoughts...once again. "Yes?", I pressed my forehead. "Mrs Winter wants to talk to you" My eyes tilted. "Send her in" "Yes?" She sat down, and her shoulders rose with anxiety. How could such an innocent soul be a firecracker on stage? The depth of her inner daze crept into my head. I wanted to inquire, but it would be crossing the line. "I feel thankful that you are concerned about my travel...to reach here. But I feel...I cannot....stay in your apartment complex" The pauses, the unsteady eyeballs and her uncertainity of confidence. She was just a girl after all. "Is it the safety?" She took my eyes. I added, "Of being in the same flat as your CEO? What if he crawls at night into your place and assa- "NO!" She inhaled with pressure and denied outright. "I trust you, sir" You do? Liar. She was petrified of me. "Not that. I .....", her throat bobbed and a deep sigh left her bushy white lips, "I...cannot afford such an expensive .....flat sir" Oh. Hm. I closed my eyes, to imagine her in a nightwear walking around the corridors, her eyes gleaming at the lush arcitecture and glass ceilings. Her surprise and enlightenment from the CCTV at my place, had itself set my happy hormones on board. "You don't have to pay. Its free" She was so stunned, her fingers knocked off the glass on my table. "Oh!" Water spilled onto my paper contents, wetting them all. Before it leaked onto my device and dress, I flushed out a hanky and absorbed the liquid. She kept patting it with her sleeves, drying the other half. "I am so sorry!", concern lined her face in creases. Freckles shone on her cheeks, and her lips lined down in an inverted C, marking how sad she was. "Its okay" She took my gaze and settled down. I called for Jane, who kept her mouth closed with extra efforts, and cleaned the mess. Her eyes lay still on Winter for a second, before she met her worry and closed her eyes in comfort. Winter's lips twitched to either side, extending in a warm smile. It wasn't for me. But I hadn't seen it. That smile, litting her entire face, flexing her muscles and resting in her eyes, broke the set of butterflies in my abdomen. No wonder why. She was the most gorgeous woman I had ever seen. As she lowered her gaze and smile to meet my eyes, I was back to my normal self. But with the strangest heat in my body. What was this feeling? "Yes dad" "Then marry someone" I sat on the dinner table, with Hades to my right and Aphrodite to my left. After having talked about her law school and Hades's plan for a business, dad had rested his eyes on me. "I haven't found anyone to marry" "So you plan to be an afterlife virgin?" I held my breath. My dad, the co founder of Business Trails, and Communications, and multiple publications was doing well for himself with the umpteen books he sold a month. Paying editors, authors and publishers, he would have been happy if I stopped this modelling and took over books. According to him, the fashion industry was a showcase of beauty, not talent. But who would tell him that people actually tolled day and night to make a ment show work? The crores of profits? The valuable message of designing and colours? Not me. So whenever he asked, "Would you marry someone to take over my business, or just take it? I would like the latter, not to mention", I would choose the former. Despite the fact I was the arrogant boss for all my workers, at home, I was the youngest son of three children, and the baby of the house. So they took me as a sixteen year old teenager fighting for his rights, not a middle aged man who was worth two hundred crores of luxury. "No..I will marry..soon, Dad" "Define soon" Years? "Six months" "Oh great. Then find a sugar baby for now" WHAT? We three had different reactions. I left a deep sigh. Hades choked on his beef, and Aphrodite squeaked and excused herself for the bathroom. I knew dad was very open about everything, but not publicly I hoped. "Dad..I am not really begging for s*x" "But you are a virgin, my boy. Look at me", he pushed a fruit inside his full mouth and chewed, "After your mother passed away, it took me four years to get over her. But she did always say not to be unhappy for a day. Ever since then, dad has been having the greatest s*x of all times" God. Nobody in our house would stay for long. Dad always had women over, and we knew they were for benefits. But he was forcing his instincts since my business started to look good. "You should get some women over and make yourself feel good" I said nothing. My mind was still full of brown eyes and black skirts. Water spills and apple smiles. "You will be happy when there is both money and s*x" I looked at him and sighed, "Okay dad" He gave me a thumbs up as Aphrodite returned to the table. Hades smirked, "Dad, doesn't Aphro need some ....sex etiquette as well?" He raised his brows at him and shook his head, "Not now" She was twenty. "You should study and get a job. After that, we can discuss" Aphro kicked Hades in the shins. "Yes-s dad". I smiled softly. The family dinner chaos as usual lifted my heart. But so did someone else's face.
