I turn off the shower and towel dry myself. I still can’t believe I fell asleep with my mate and his best friend in the cabin. I shook my head at myself and quickly put on my thong and matching bra, some jeans, a black spaghetti strap shirt, and black ankle boots. I then grab my sheath and strap it to my thigh. Once I have brushed my hair, I go to the kitchen but stop when I see a note on the table.

‘How come I did see this earlier?’ I thought to myself. When I realized this morning that my mate was gone, I got ready and began training. I sighed, putting the note on the table again and grabbed a bottle of water, then went back outside to pick up my weapons from training. I began to clean my throwing knives as I pulled them out of the target, then putting them in my sheath. As I knelt to pick up my sword, I felt the air around me change. There was someone behind me. I grip my sword tight and I turn ready to strike, but stop just before inflicting any pain on the person. My eyes widen as I look at the pale Lycan who I almost beheaded. All the color had drained from his face.

“H-hello Kiera. I’m B-Benny, Xavier’s Gamma” he stuttered.

“Goddess Benny, I could have killed you” I said, moving my sword away from him.

“Are you okay?” I asked, looking at his neck, making sure I didn’t hurt him.

“I-I’m okay” he said, letting out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. I sighed again, grabbing the rest of my weapons, then took Benny’s hand and guided him inside the cabin. Once inside, I pointed to the sofa.

“Have a seat” I said, putting my weapons on the table, then went to get him some iced tea.

“Here, drink this” I said, squatting in front of him. As he drank the iced tea, I could see that the color on his face returned.

“Benny, whenever you come around here, don’t be so quiet. I could have hurt you or even worse” I said.

“I’m sorry Kiera” Benny said.

“It’s okay. So, why are you here?” I asked.

“Xavier wanted me to check on you and see if you’d like to join him for breakfast”, Benny said. I could feel my heart rate pick up at the mention of Xavier. All my life I thought that I would never have a mate because I’m different, yet I was blessed with one and here I am trying to stay away from him. I should be grateful and stop trying to fight this mate bond.

“Okay, when and where?” I asked.

“Now, I’ll drive and thank you for the iced tea. It was delicious”, he smiled and handed me the empty glass. I took the glass and put it in the kitchen. I grabbed my phone and keys, then went to the living room where Benny was, but he took my keys.

“I’ll drive” he repeated with a grin and I chuckled, shaking my head. I locked the door behind me and got in the passenger seat. Benny opens the door for me and I jump in. He then jogs around and gets in the truck. He starts the truck and starts to drive. I turn on the radio and ‘Girl on fire, by Alicia Keys’ comes on.

“Ooh, I like this song” Benny said, turning it up.

“Hotter than a fantasy, Lonelier like a highway… She’s living in a world and it’s on fire… filled with catastrophe… But she knows she can fly away” Benny began to sing, then he looked at me and I shook my head no.

“Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. She got both feet on the ground… and she’s burning it down… She got her head in the clouds and she’s not backing down…” he sang and I couldn’t help but smile.

“This girl is on fire… This girl is on fire… She’s walking on fire… this girl is on fire. Looks like a girl but she’s a flame… So bright she can burn your eyes… better look the other way. You can try, but you’ll never forget her name. She’s on top of the world. Hottest of the hottest girls says” Benny points to me. I have to admit it was contagious.

I usually just sing in the shower, never in front of anyone. Benny finished singing the song and smiled at me.

“I like the way you sing” he said, and I laughed.

“I don’t. I only sing in the shower” I admitted.

“I liked it. It was good”, he smiled at me and I could see the truth in his eyes.

“Thank you, but this stays between us” I playfully glared at him and he made a motion to zip his lips shut and I laughed. We pulled up to a huge gate and a huge man stepped up to my truck. When he sees Benny, he nods and gestures to the other man to open the gate. Benny drives for a bit more until we come up to a huge castle.

“Wow” was all I said as I opened the door to my truck. This place is truly breathtaking. It has this gothic style look, but it’s still beautiful and I loved it. On each side of the doors of the castle are different colored rose bushes. I felt fingers under my chin and I was startled at the sparks.

“You might want to close that beautiful mouth, little bird. You don’t want flies going in”, Xavier said, and I couldn’t help but blush. I looked at Benny to see him looking at Xavier with a longing look and a soft smile. I wondered if Benny had a crush- no, that looked more like love.

“Come, I made us breakfast” he said, extending his hand to me. I looked at Xavier arching an eyebrow.

“You? Made breakfast?” I asked and he chuckled.

“Just because I’m the king doesn’t mean I don’t cook” he says. I took his hand and realized Benny was no longer with us as Xavier guided me inside the castle.
