~*Three Months Ago*~

“Kiera, are you ready to go?” I heard mom ask. I looked at the house one last time. Images of dad, my sister, mom, grandma, and I flashed in my head and a soft smile graced my lips as a lone tear escaped my eyes.
“Sweetheart” I heard my mom say from behind me, making me turn. Her eyes soften when she sees me. I’m not one to cry in front of anyone. If I cry, I cry alone. Mom places a hand on my back and runs her hand up and down in a comforting way.
“I wish we at least had a body to bury” I said, my voice breaking at the end.
“I know honey, but I swear I will find out who did it, but I need you safe though” mom said. Mom used to have this glow on her all the time, but ever since we were attacked and the hunters killed grandma and dad, she has lost that glow. All I see in her eyes is revenge. Revenge for those we have lost and determination to get dad’s body so we can give him a proper burial.
“I can help mom. I'm half angel half human. Two hunters are better than one”, I said.
“I know honey, but you and your sister are all I have left. I can’t lose you… any of you”, mom’s voice cracked. This was why I was going to a cabin grandma had bought many years ago. Not even grandpa knew about it.
“Okay mom, but promise me you will communicate whenever you can and if you need help, promise me that you will call me” I said.
“I promise sweetheart” she then looked at my face, well at my scar.
“It healed up pretty well, though I’m sorry it left a thin scar” mom said.
“Don’t be. It’s part of what we do and the scar doesn’t bother me”, I assure her.
“Good because you’re still beautiful. Now you have everything that you need?” mom asked and I nodded.
“Address to the cabin?” mom asked.
“Check” I said, showing her the paper.
“Clothes and weapons?” mom asked.
“Check and check” I said, pointing to the suitcase and duffle bag.
“Money and a full gas tank in your truck?” she asked. We had five and a half grand in cash and we divided the money between the both of us.
“Check on both and your truck is also full with a five gallon gas tank extra on both trucks just in case” I said.
“Thank you honey. I love you” she said, pulling me into a hug. I pray that she’s able to find the hunters and ferals that killed my dad and grandma and that she’s able to bring dad’s body back so we can bury him properly.
“I love you too, mom. Stay safe” I said, pulling back from her. I kissed her cheek, grabbed my bags, and left the house. I got in my black Chevy truck and drove off. Everything inside me was screaming to go back and help mom, but I couldn’t be a distraction to her.
‘Mom will be okay. She’s a great hunter’, I assured myself.
“Okay Wisconsin, ready or not, here I come” I said.

~*Present*~

I sighed, looking at the wet spot on the floor of my cabin. This cabin has been in my family for years now. I’ve been here for three months now. My mother decided I should come here after she got a tip from a friend of hers about the hunters that killed my father. So, here I am.
“I need to fix the roof” I said to no one. Good thing mom and dad taught me how to survive since I was little. Thinking about mom makes me sad and worried. I haven’t heard from mom since I arrived in Wisconsin three months ago and, to be honest, I’m worried.
I sighed, shaking my head to get rid of the negative thoughts. I needed to fix the roof, but first I needed to eat. I cleaned up the wet spot and made breakfast. I decided on scrambled eggs, bacon, some toast, and a much needed cup of coffee. After I was done with breakfast, I took notes on everything I needed to fix the roof and the groceries I needed to buy, which I was low on. I then went to my room and changed my clothes. I put on some black camo pants, a dark green short sleeve shirt, and black combat boots. I then strapped my twin daggers to my sheath that was on my lower back. I braided my hair, then grabbed my phone, keys, and wallet. I got in the truck and made my way into town. I try not to go much into town since it’s the Lycan king’s territory and the last thing I need is trouble with the Lycan King.
As I got closer to town, I decided to drive to the grocery store first. I took out my list and walked inside the grocery store. I grabbed a cart and began to get everything on my list. Once I got everything, I paid, then put the groceries inside the truck. I then drove to a home depot. I looked at the things I needed. I needed to make sure they were good quality because, like I said, this cabin has been in my family for a while.
“Excuse me” I heard a male say. I looked to see it was one of the workers.
“Do you need any help?” he asked. He was tall, about six feet tall, with blonde wavy hair down to his shoulders. He had this surfer look which he definitely pulled off.
“No, I’m okay, but thank you” I said.
“Okay, if you need anything let me know. My name is Ambrose” he said, and I nodded. I got a heavy duty cart and began to place what I needed. Lastly, I grabbed the roofing nails and sealant I needed, then went to cash out. I loaded everything into the back of the truck. I looked around and saw a nice café, so I walked there. I crossed the street and went in. Just as I entered, an intoxicating scent of dragon fruit, peach, and sandalwood filled my nose. I looked around and saw a large group. I sniffed the air and I could tell they were Lycans. I saw one of them bring his head up, but I quickly turned.
“s**t” I said lowly. My heart was racing now. I wasn’t scared, I knew how to defend myself, but the last thing I needed was problems with the Lycans.
“Hello, can I get you something?” the barista asked. I looked up and chose the first thing my eyes landed on so I could get out of there quickly.
“Yes, let me have a frozen hot chocolate to go please” I said.
“Anything else?” she asked and I shook my head. I paid for what I asked for and she began to make it. I could feel someone looking at me and I knew it was coming from that group at the table not far from me. After all, they were the only ones in here besides the barista.
“Here you go, ma’am. Enjoy” the barista smiled.
“Thank you” I said, and began to walk out of the café.
“Hey, you” I heard a deep husky voice call which sent a delicious shiver down my spine. I ignored him and continued walking out of the café. Suddenly, someone grabbed me by my wrist, sending electric shocks up my arm. Before I could stop myself, I dropped my drink, reaching behind my back and taking out one of my daggers while, at the same time, grabbing the person’s arm and flipped the person over me, making sure the person landed on his back. The person let out an oomph, then I placed my knee on his chest and one of my daggers on his neck. I saw it was a man and as I sniffed the air I cursed when I realized it was one of the Lycans from inside the café. My mind and everything around me stopped when I looked at him in those breathtaking purple eyes. That’s when I realized he was my mate. He looked at me with a look of… pride? I pulled back my knife and removed my knee from his chest.
“I’m sorry. You startled me”, I lied. I extended my hand to help him up. He smiled, showing me his cute dimples.
‘s**t, he's got dimples’ I groaned to myself. He took my hand and stood up. He’s tall, about six feet six inches, maybe taller. Broad shoulders. He has black hair that’s short on the sides and a little longer at the top and it looks like he has run his hands through his hair a few times. He has beautiful purple eyes, sexy full lips and a smile that would make any woman drop her panties in a heartbeat. He’s your father’s worst nightmare and your mother’s wet dream. Oh and his body… god, he’s body is like a Greek god’s body. It looks like the gods carved him out of the most expensive marble he had to perfection and placed him before me. From the corner of my eye, I saw more people coming out of the café. He looked up and I took that chance to run as fast as I could, hoping he didn't use his Lycan speed to stop me. I jumped in the truck and peeled out of there like a bat out of hell.
Then something very important clicked in my head. My mate touched me, which meant he initiated the bond. One of us is going to start feeling the bond hit us hard. I groaned, running a hand down my face. I had no idea what to do, but I had a feeling the bond was going to hit me the hardest. I finally got back to the cabin and took out the groceries and put them away. I then went back outside and began to unload the stuff to fix the roof. It was going to be a long day.
