Chapter Eleven - Party

The ride didn’t take that long until they arrived at the residence of Duke Williams where a piece of familiar classical music was being played after they got down from the carriage. Venus was about to get down the carriage when a hand appeared before her, “Here, let me help you, milady,” Arthur smiled. She genuinely smiled and happily accepted it, “That is so kind of you, Prince Arthur,” After she got down from the carriage she bowed her head. “It’s my pleasure,” Arthur then offered his side of elbows, “May I escort you inside, milady?” He invited her. Venus could feel her heart thumping against her chest as she quietly cling to his elbows, “Yes, you may,” The two of them could feel their heartbeats rising after they started walking together inside the grand party. A lot of colorful gowns greeted them in the ballroom, and numerous princesses and princes were dancing with smiles on their faces. Bright lights surrounded the room as a crystal chandelier was hanging at the center of it all, making the whole room look extravagant. “Let us welcome, Prince Arthur Roux Winter and Princess Venus Adelaide Fedora-Alberta!” The spokesperson announced, forcing some of the guests to look at them. Some of them started whispering and murmuring to their friends as if they were judging Arthur with her. “Can’t he get a hint? He should pity himself for accepting charity from the kingdom of Rose,” Venus heard someone talking after they finally managed to get downstairs. “And why is the princess with him? Isn’t she already married? I saw her husband here a while ago,” Someone replied, so it piqued her interest. “I heard that the king and queen of Rose passed the role to Princess Venus, so they're business partners from now on,” Someone answered. The rumors didn’t die down, so she worriedly looked at Arthur and was surprised that he remained unfazed by all of the things he had been hearing. “Are you alright? I’m sorry that you have to hear those kinds of words, you don’t deserve it,” Venus started fidgeting with her fingers. Arthur then looked at her before shaking his head, “You don’t have to worry, I’m not bothered at what they’re saying, milady,” “I know that I’m doing this for a reason and I’ll just prove to them that with my actions, words won’t work with their kinds of people,” He added. Venus admired him for that, she likes people who stand up for themselves, “I’m with you then, Your Highness,” She proudly bowed her head. “We must look for Duke Williams to give our wishes and gifts,” Venus suggested, so he just nodded before coming along with her. It wasn’t difficult for them to look for him since a lot of people were gathering around him, muttering their wishes. “Duke Williams, I wish you a happy birthday,” Venus raised her tone, so everyone looked at her and gasped in awe upon seeing her beauty. Everyone admired her for being so bright and beautiful even if she was married, they all still wanted to make a move on her. Arthur has already read the room and clenched his fists upon seeing how some of their lewd eyes were looking directly at her exposed skin. “My, my, I wasn’t expecting you to be here, Your Highness,” Duke Williams happily approached her before kissing the back of her hands. Venus mentally smiled, she thought her plans were working. She plans on attending every meeting and party numerous royalties would make. She wanted to win everyone’s favor, just in case someday, she might need support to raise her voice in court. “I wouldn't miss it, I hope you’ll like our gifts,” Venus bowed her head and let Arthur give all of the things they brought. “Ah, the famous fallen prince,” Duke Williams pointed out, “I’m glad to see that things are working out for you,” “Happy birthday, Duke Williams, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you,” Arthur didn’t mind his other statement and just greeted him. “Hm, I hope you’re not regretting your decision on helping him, milady, I heard it from Louis,” Williams looked at Venus. “We’re currently progressing with our project, he’s a good businessman and some of the kingdoms must hear about this,” Venus proudly said. “You should try working with him, I heard you require servants that would deliver and create some wine,” She added. Williams was surprised that she knows all about it, a woman who knows how to do her thing is one of the things he admires. Arthur couldn’t help but feel touched by what she had said, she was just so bright that he couldn’t help but be drawn by it. “Hm, if that is what you say, milady, then I’ll think about it,” Duke Williams looked at Arthur one last time. The two of them intently looked at each other’s eyes. Venus could feel the tension forming around the two, so she stepped in. “Have you seen Prince Louis around, Duke Williams?” Venus curiously asked, which almost pricked Arthur’s heart. The duke just shook his head, “I’m afraid not, Your Highness, the last time he spoke with me was when he was with Princess Marie Alicia, but that was an hour ago before you arrived,” “I see, thank you for this information duke, we’ll be leaving to enjoy the rest of the amenities,” Venus curtsied. Duke Williams just bowed his head, “I hope you may enjoy the rest of your time here, Your Highnesses,” Venus and Arthur left Duke Williams with his other visitors as she kept on roaming her eyes around her room, looking for her husband. Arthur noticed how agitated she was, so he pulled her toward the dance floor, which surprised her well-being. “P-Prince Arthur, what are you doing?” She calmly asked and noticed that they were both almost at the wild part of the party where some of the royalties were nonstop dancing. “Would you like to dance with me, my princess?” Arthur didn’t mind her questions and boldly invited her while offering his hands. “Let’s release those negative thoughts off your mind before looking for him,” He added, so she felt bad for a moment. She was hesitating at first because she wanted to look for Louis as much as possible, but she also wanted to go along with him. Venus curtsied before accepting his hands, “I’d love to dance with you as well, Your Highness,” She smiled. Arthur could feel her heart rejoicing until she escorted her to the dance floor, some of the people around them had their eyes on them. “Who’s that prince?” A lot wondered because they haven’t seen Arthur around numerous parties before. “I think that’s the prince of the fallen kingdom,” One of them answered, so they wondered for a moment why Venus was dancing with him. “Why would the future queen of Peony and the princess of Rose dance with a man of that caliber?” Someone murmured. Arthur and Venus seemed to not mind their statements as they started to curtsy with one another before they held each other’s hand. The sparks that they felt after they touched somehow comforted their well-being as they started dancing in that huge ballroom as if they were the only ones there. Their eyes didn’t falter, they remained to stare at each other’s eyes like they were afraid to let go, or look to others for they’ll be judged. Venus was about to remove her gaze because of her embarrassment, but Arthur lifted her chin using his finger. “Just look at me, milady,” Arthur smiled before he gracefully twirled her, lifting her in the air as if she was some sack of cotton. “Is it just me but they look so wonderful together?” Someone commented after Louis decided to go to the dance floor. Prince Louis has been hearing from numerous people that his wife arrived at this party, so he couldn’t help but look for her. He looked at his wife from afar and noticed that she was smiling brightly. It has been a while since he saw her like that. Aside from that, he hated the idea that people are talking about how his wife pairs well with that fallen prince. “Oh, Louis! We should dance as well!” Marie suggested before holding out his arms, but he stopped her while shoving her hands away. “I’m going to my wife, I’ll be right back,” After he said those words, he left her as if they hadn't planned to eat with each other a while ago. “Why are you always around when I’m trying to conduct my plans?” Marie clenched her fists before approaching the dance floor. Louis excused himself many times just to reach his wife, who looked like she was practically enjoying the dance. He has never seen his wife do that kind of face before, even back when they were kids, he couldn’t take another step to stop that dance. Marie noticed that Louis was bothered about it from afar, so she decided to step onto the dance floor and asked someone to dance with her. The nearer she got to her position, the more she was excited to do something that would humiliate the princess everyone was admiring about. “This is for worrying him,” Marie whispered before she decided to pretend that she lost her balance to push Venus toward the huge cake on the buffet table. “O-Oh my, help me!” Marie almost screamed, but it was all her act just to make people believe that it was an accident. She was grinning the whole time when she bumped into her, making some of the people gasp while looking at Venus and her partner because that’s where she was about to fall. After the twirl, ladies would step away from their partners to force them to get their hands to dance with them again. Venus was about to wait for Arthur to do his part when she noticed something. She glanced at her side, her eyes widened after seeing Marie Alicia’s back that was almost about to hit her, so she closed her eyes and waited for the impact. But all she heard was the crashing of plates and tables. When she knew that nothing happened to her, she opened her eyes and noticed that Louis and Arthur were there to protect her from the impact. Rumors rose in the air after they noticed that Marie Alicia hit the buffet table, causing a variety of foods to fall on her dress. “U-Ugh, this is disgusting,” Marie almost teared up, so some of the maids helped her while people were rumoring that she was a disgrace. “She almost hit Princess Venus, why is she not dancing so well? That fact alone feels embarrassing enough,” Some of the nobles commented. “What is she doing? The twirl was not that harsh enough to make her fall like that,” A duchess wondered. Marie Alicia didn’t care about what they just said and glanced at where Venus was. It made her more furious upon seeing that Louis and Arthur were helping her up. Venus immediately approached her, which surprised her for a moment, “Are you alright? Let me help you,” Marie Alicia was contemplating if she would accept it, but she did, so she could hear everyone praising her for her kindness. “I knew that princess Venus was an angel! She will always be in our hearts!” Some of the nobles commented. “She’s bright, smart, beautiful, and kind, Prince Louis was really lucky to have her,” She heard some say. “Marie? Are you certain that you’re alright?” Venus worriedly asked, distracting her train of thought. “I’m fine, I’ll leave to get myself refreshed, thank you for your help,” Marie just faked a smile before turning her back at her while enduring all of those people’s praises for Venus. Her plan backfired and she couldn’t do anything but just think that Venus was doing her things again. “You’re going to pay for taking almost everything from me, Venus,” Marie clenched her fists before lowering her head. She left the party with a heavy heart with thoughts about how she would put down Venus, especially now that she was married to the man that she loves. She would do whatever it takes to make her suffer. To be continued…
