AFTER THE DISHES WERE washed and other chores tended to, Brooke stepped outside onto the porch. She inhaled the warm night air, looking up at the amethyst sky as slate-colored clouds gathered on the horizon. Her thoughts were a jumbled mess and part of her felt like giving up and going back home. What should have been a quick and relatively easy trip was now turning into something difficult and confusing. Her sad little revelation at the dinner table had left her feeling raw and anxious.
