Chapter 3 Sean rushed to tie his running shoes as the car’s horn called him out. After a pause to lock the apartment door, he flew down the stairs, two at a time, and slid into the passenger seat of Jeremy’s bright yellow 1968 Dodge Dart. They traded arm punches and grins. “Jeremy, thanks for babysitting me today. I need it. It’s been hard to sleep lately and I feel like crap.” Sean scanned his lanky buddy and gave a light yank on the long ponytail. “Um, you smell nice.” His boyish face looked younger than its actual twenty-three years. Jeremy’s gaze momentarily met Sean’s. “Dude, I don’t mind babysitting you. It’s only because I love you like a brother.” His tone shifted from light to serious. “I know you’re hurting real bad from the shooting. I could never be a cop. It’s too violent.”
