CHAPTER 12 NICK PLASTERED ON a smile as he pushed open the door to the living room. Where was the woman? The couch sat empty, a dented cushion the only evidence that she’d been there. Too late, he realised the security lights outside the house had come on again, two thousand watts illuminating the driveway. She must have set off the motion sensors as she left. Nick ran outside, but the gates were already closed. The damn girl had a head start, and he didn’t know what car she drove or whether she’d gone right or left.
