Celestina’s POV
Nat saw my stiffness and interrupted, “You know what it’s our party. So, let’s enjoy it to the fullest with no major drama.” Others agreed with her and I thanked her silently. She smiled understandingly. We all decided on when to start the party and what music to play. Now it was time for my Literature class. So, I and Nat started walking toward our class. Hayley and her group were standing in the corner of hallways giving me a stink eye. I ignored that and walked straight forward.
“You are still having a problem with Xavier?” Nat asked me. I don’t know an answer to that. I mean I have not spoken a word to him but just being around him makes it difficult for me to breathe but at the same time, I wanna be with him. Something is really wrong with me!
“Not a problem. Just that he and his group is not exactly the person I would like to run into.”
“But Alan is cool. He is really calm and fun to be around.” I eyed her suspiciously. Alan is the gamma of the Blackwood Blue Moon Pack.
“You know what let’s not worry about the guests, invite whoever you want. I think I need to come out of the shell myself.” Nat's face lighted with a grin and she hugged me tightly.
“You are the best.” She screamed and sat in her seat. I sat beside her and turned around to look at Xavier’s seat but it was vacant.
“Looking for someone, Love.” Suddenly a boy with grey eyes came in front of me. I was startled by his sudden appearance.
“No.” I simply said and put my head down to my book.
“Oh, how manner less of me, I am Damien Vincent. Nice to meet you.” He extended his hand to meet mine, I hesitantly shook his hand. His hand was pale same as his body and cold as the block of ice. Definitely a vampire! My thoughts commented.
“Hi, I am Celestina Jones.” He smiled at me and sat behind my seat which was beside Xavier’s. As I was talking to Damien, Xavier entered the class while eyeing me and Damien. Weird!
“Of course I know you. The new girl.” His smile was like a child but had mischief and slyness in it.
“Hey, Damien.” Nat greeted him but with a sarcastic voice.
“Uh hi, Nat.” He diverted his eyes from me to hers and then I saw Xavier sitting stiffly as if trying to listen to our conversation. “Didn’t see you there. Heard you are having a party at yours. Aren’t I invited?” He changed his eyes to look innocent and if I am not mistaken then he was giving her a puppy-dog eye.
“Yeah, whatever. It’s a BYOD (Bring your own drink) party so take care of that.” She said and turned towards the board.
“Love, we are going to enjoy this party.” He said to me but it didn’t appear creepy at all. I just nodded my head and took a last look at Xavier then at our professor who just entered the class.
For today’s class, we had to discuss the book ‘The Great Gatsby' and what we learned from it. The students in the class kept on answering about the American dream, wealth, greed, and love. I was fiddling with my pen thinking about the deeper aspect of the book. It is really one of the books I have enjoyed reading in my past time.
“Miss Jones, can we hear what you think about this book?” Professor called out to me.
“Umm sure, I mean yes it is about the love, the dream Jay envisioned but it also teaches about understanding the art of letting go at the right time. He made the reconciliation with Daisy his only life goal which resulted in losing his own life.”
“So you think that loving can be fatal?”
“No, it is one of the most beautiful things in life but making it the life’s only sole purpose can be fatal. One must keep themselves at priority as well.” I replied.
“That’s very thoughtful, Miss Jones. Anyone else who would like to share their thoughts with the class?” Xavier raised his hands to say something. “Yes, Mr. Blackwood.”
“I think that love is what gave him the direction in life. In the end, if Daisy couldn’t understand it then we can’t blame Jay Gatsby for that.” His voice was baritone-tuned and husk. It was filled with the dominance that could make anyone know that he owns the room. The teacher nodded her head and asked me to comment on that.
“Jay got blinded by love, he was not listening to Nick; he didn’t see the signs that might have helped him to save his life.” Xavier squinted his eyes at me. He was about to speak but the professor interrupted our debate.
“Thank you, Miss Jones and Mr. Blackwood. This is a thing about English Lit. You can let your imagination reach any heights. So, now getting on with the class…” He went on with the class and I kept on thinking about what Xavier said and his voice. The class ended and it was time for my art class. I walked to the locker with Nat.
“Woah today was crazy. Damien and Xavier spoke in front of people.” She tried to make sure if it was still a dream.
“Why what is so crazy about that?” I was confused.
“Xavier is an amazing student but he has never I mean never spoke in class. Damian is a cool guy but he keeps it to himself or his group with Miller siblings.” He did shake my hand; what if he was trying to figure out what I am? I am pretty sure he didn’t get anything. Today at the party I have to be extra careful as there is no idea that might come to the party.
“Whatever, I need to go to the class. I will see you at the house.” We said our goodbyes and went to our respective class. Today I had an art class; this was one class I was really excited about.
As I got to the class there were not many students, some were sitting on a wooden stool in front of the canvases. Some were out in the schoolyard; some were just going through their phones. The teacher asked us this class to be a self-drawn class; she wanted us to draw anything we wish to and from the next class we will have to learn the technicality of different arts. So, I decided to make a sketch rather than painting anything. I was looking around for any factor that could give me inspiration then someone entered the class who I never expected I would see in the art class. I didn’t have to raise my head to find out who it was he only had a place beside mine to sit.
I just fixed my paper on the wooden board and started to draw lines on the white sheet of the paper. I started to draw a girl near the window looking at the world having an inner war to get out of the shell. It was my powers, the girl I have locked inside me for 3 years. Xavier was painting with various colors and creating contemporary art; he knew his colors, his hand moment. He took a look at mine but turned around with distaste as if my sketch was the worst thing in the world. Son of a b***h! I really don’t like him and I was correct about him.
For the rest of the class, I didn’t pay any attention to him and just focused on my sketch. In the end, I was able to complete it and I was happy with the result. Xavier’s art was good as well and I would have commented but Mr. Aloof had his own world. So be it. I packed it up properly so that I could put it on my room wall and checked the time to get ready to leave for the library. I heard a voice calling out to Xavier; it was Hayley.
“Hey, Xavier. My car got some problem; can you give me a ride home?” She batted her eyes at him. He just gave her a swift nod but that caused a foreign feeling in my heart. I didn’t like his proximity with Hayley and I wanted her to fade away from the world. I shuddered at that thought because it was not mine, it was my wolves. I have to get out of here, but Hayley saw me.
“Ah, the new girl. You know you still owe me an apology.” There was a look of confusion on Xavier’s face. I usually would have avoided her but right now my wolf wanted to answer her and she did.
“Apology for you not walking properly? Manners are really weird around here.” I walked past them and my wolf did a hair flip and proud dance in my head. I could feel her anger but there was a proud feeling as well in the air. That was not mine and it definitely can’t be of Hayley. Was it of Xavier’s? I don’t have time for this. I have to get meet Mars and clear the questions I have had since yesterday.
Mars was sitting behind the desk reading a book. He greeted me and I asked him where the books about werewolves are; I first managed the books and went to the werewolves’ aisle. I have read lots of books but now I had to read about mates. There is no way Xavier is my mate or I didn’t think even it is possible for me to have a mate as I am not exactly only a werewolf. I read the books but the feelings, the spark, constant scratch from the wolf was not there. Maybe for Xavier, it is just an attraction and my teenage hormones were coming into play.
“Ma… umm Mr. Arthur I had to ask you something.” I was about to call him by his real name but there was a man in front of the desk. He seemed familiar and turned to look at me; he was the school’s dean Mr. Miller.
“Miss Jones didn’t expect you see you here.” He gave me a smile and I returned that to him.
“Hello, Mr. Miller.”
“I will get back to you Celestina in a moment,” Mars told me. I went back to the aisle and I heard Mars, “Elijah, I am looking for it but I am not sure if it is available in the States.”
“I don’t care. I need it and I need it soon. Do whatever it takes Mars.” Elijah whispered but I heard it. So Elijah knew of Mars’ real identity. I heard the bell of the door indicating someone left the store.
“You can come out, dear.” I went to the front desk and asked him about the mate and how it works.
“Why suddenly? Is there someone?” he grinned at me.
“I mean I am not sure, but I didn’t feel or went through any single change written in this book.”
“Those books are not correct or are very old. It used to happen like those centuries back but with time everything changes. Instincts connect and attraction is important in today’s world. You must have heard that everyone has a soul mate in the world and they may or may not meet them. It’s the same for werewolves they meet someone, feel things but that not for life till the mating ritual. If a werewolf completed this ritual with the person they feel protective then it’s for life. They can also complete this ritual with anyone like a human then make a relationship.” He explained to me.
“So, it’s not just one person.”
“No, till mating ritual it can differ. Unlike humans they just work on love, attraction sometimes greed, and s*x is kind of a need while for werewolves it’s a holy deed like marriage.”
