She knew then with a little throb of her heart where the Comtesse would be found. Even as she moved back into the corridor, she thought that she heard footsteps in the distance. It might be her imagination, but because she was frightened of being seen, she ran not to the Master suite, but to an open door that was almost opposite. As she went inside the room, she realised that it was the boudoir that Mrs. Meadows had spoken to her about.
