CHAPTER FOURJosina found the Duke in the stables and he then proceeded to show her a number of horses.
They were all, she knew, not only well bred but exceptionally fine.
They went from stall to stall and while they were doing so, were joined by Johnnie and Harry.
“Are we allowed a choice?” Johnnie enquired.
“Of course,” the Duke nodded, “except for the one I intend to ride myself and the one I have already chosen for Josina.”
“I knew I would have to travel ‘Second Class’!” Johnnie joked.
It would have been impossible to discard any horse in the Duke’s stables without knowing that they would be considered superlative wherever they appeared.
Josina was thrilled with the stallion that he had chosen for her, which was all black except for a white star on its forehead.
