7. Baubles Amy didn’t take us to where I thought she would naturally go, hunting that which she realised my body had a taste for — vampires. Instead I found myself at the mouth of an alley surrounded by skyscrapers on three sides, with very little of the morning sunlight filtering through. I tried to hear what she was thinking and why she’d brought us here, probing her mind with soft, gentle nudges at regular intervals. I hoped that by continually exploring and trying to find a way in, Amy would think it was something the body she was still adjusting to did of its own accord. We stepped out of the alley and onto the pavement, easily blending in with the shoppers and people heading to work.
