Chapter 4

1381 Words
Zane POV I finished my meal and polished off another glass of wine. Satisfied, I rubbed my full stomach and headed off to find my beta Kyle, and see if we could hang out together. ‘Hey buddy, want to go to the club for a few?’ my Beta asks me before I have a chance to hunt him down and ask. ‘Gina is out having a girl’s night out, and I am bored.’ He adds ‘Sure, I need to get out of here for a while, dad is on my back again about finding my mate.’ I moan that the beta found his mate a couple of years ago, and he is all for me finding mine. ‘Got to get out to find her. She might be just around the corner.’ Kyle laughs and thumps me on the back with a bro hug pat, as we head to my car. We go to a club in town. It is run by werewolves, so it is fine to let your hair down. I watch the she-wolves dancing on the dance floor, gyrating and trying to entice men to them. I am not interested, but don’t mind watching. A few drinks later, I saw Karen walk into the club, and suddenly I no longer wanted to be there. ‘Time to go Kyle.’ I spoke loudly over the music booming in the room. ‘What? We have hardly been here.’ I nodded my head towards the table Karen had just sat down at. ‘Karen is here, I am not interested.’ It seemed to piss me off that she seemed to know where I am so often. ‘Dam is that b***h still trying to get into your pants?’ ‘Yeah, she is still working.' I have been in your bed', even though I did not have s*x, she makes sure everyone knows she slept in my bed, which I can’t deny, as I do not even know when she climbed into my bed. It could have been only a few minutes before I fully woke. The more I thought about it, the more I believed she was on house cleaning duties and climbed in when she saw I was still asleep in bed. I still had my pants on from the night before, so I know I did not do the deed, you know I am saving it for my mate.’ I said as I started walking out of the club through the back door before that b***h could see me. We go to the pizza place in town and get a pizza and coffee to go. We had just climbed into our car when Karen and a couple of girls walked into the pizza place. Karen looks around and frowns. Then she gets her phone out and looks at it for a little while, then turns and looks straight at me. I knew at that instant my phone was bugged, or she had a GPS of me on her phone. ‘Did she just locate you on her phone?’ Kyle asks incredulously, as I drive off. ‘Yeah, going to have to get dad onto this one, that is not acceptable behavior.’ I replied and grabbed a slice of pizza. ‘That girl has it bad, and that locator thing creeps me out.’ Kyle says through a mouthful of pizza. Early in the morning, I found myself sitting with my dad in his office. He had phoned around to see if he could poach some trackers. While I went through the list of staff members, we needed to sort out who we were going to send to the barracks, usually when we have a ball or some other large event that had us using the barracks. We have a system already in place. However, this was different. The staff who were to be on the roster for the next ball, which is in a few months, should not be included in this task. If the rogue hunt was still going on, we needed to separate the two groups. The needs for the ball were different from the needs of the rogue situation. Luckily, we had a huge area for this. Eight buildings, all three stories high, housed three hundred people in each, surrounded by a large dining hall that could seat over one thousand people at a time, the kitchens were huge and the amount of food to cover the ball and the rogue hunt was going to be unimaginable. Sighing as Dad hung up from another failed attempt to find trackers, I continued to work on the roster. I found Karen at last, and she was not on the roster for the ball. It seems she had requested not to be rostered on duty at the next ball with hopes of attending. I put Karen on the roster for the barracks kitchens, along with a number of other male workers. We didn’t really want to put any females cleaning the barracks with a whole lot of tired warriors, mainly to serve and clean up the kitchens. That in itself is a large job. That should keep Karen out of my hair. We normally have the barracks staff housed on the ground floor of barracks number one, keeping all staff together. We will put all the warriors in barracks 2 and 3, depending on how many we get. From the figures Dad has gotten so far, we will have about six hundred men starting to arrive as early as this weekend and over the next week, depending on how far they have to travel to get here. I had just finished the list and put it aside for Dad to go over, when I heard him whoop, and thank an Alpha from the Blue River Pack over and over again, it sounded like we got a tracker at last. We had almost run out of packs to ask. Guess one is better than none. I sat and waited for Dad to finish the call, he was saying “Really” and “That good?”, “okay”, “wow”, “well I will put Mad in the pack house and not in the barracks”, “Yes”, “yes”, “I understand, will do the best we can.” “Yes okay”, “thank you again”, “when will your group arrive”. “So, this weekend”, “excellent.” I was itching to know what the other side of the conversation was, it was annoying the heck out of me, hearing just Dad’s side of the conversation. ‘Well son, we have good news at last.’ My father beamed as if he had just won a great prize. ‘Tell my dad who we did get.’ I asked, glad we got a tracker at last. ‘The Blue River Pack’s best tracker, a lass called Madison.’ Dad replies as he picks up the list for the barracks cleaning and starts reading the list. ‘A girl? You can’t be serious. Why would they send a girl?’ I asked in disbelief. We can’t send a girl out there. ‘What is wrong with a girl? If she is half as good as the Alpha states, then, we are very lucky the pack allowed us to use her. You chose only men for the cleaning in the barracks and only a few females in the kitchen?’ Dad asks, the tracker talk done. ‘Yeah, we are going to have six hundred un-mated males. Do you want me to send un-mated females to them? Do you think they will want to go out and fight when a warm bed and body is waiting for them back at the barracks?’ I asked. ‘Good idea did not think of that. Now what is this about that girl, Karen? You mentioned her earlier, but I was too involved with phoning the Alpha for the tracker and I forgot. I notice you have put her in the kitchen.’ Dad says, still hyped about getting a tracker and that will keep him happy for a while, well until we see how good this girl really is.
