Chapter One The Princess’ of Andora “Selene Adira Marin! Wake up, you’re going to be late for the Annual Ball of the Sea”! Next thing Selene knew, her door was being thrown open by her mom Cora. Selene was waiting for the outburst her mom was going to start because she slept in again. “Selene is this anyway the future Queen of Andora should behave? Sleeping in when you still have yet to pack and get ready”. “Mom please stop yelling, I’m up, goddess woman the whole Palace heard you”, she said, the sleep still evident in her voice. Just then her sister Nahla walks in with a big cup of coffee, the aroma instantly had Selene up and out of bed thanking her. “What would you do without me,” Nahla says. “Probably still getting yelled at by the Queen”, she says playfully rolling her eyes at her mother. “Go shower and get ready, I will pack your bag, by the way Nahla since your eighteenth birthday is tomorrow, the King gave in to you. All your pleading and begging worked sweetheart, pack a bag you get to go with your sister”, Cora says laughing. “Ahh, thank you mom”, Nahla screams jumping up and down her beautiful curly black hair wild and her dark blue almost violet eyes shining with excitement. She is excited about the possibility of finding her mate. As Selene walks to her ensuite, she stares at her bathtub longingly and sighs, she knows her mom is upset so she takes a quick shower. She puts on a silver silk dress her mom left out for her. It’s beautiful with the back opening up and small pearls lining the back, the front of the dress is simple and fits her perfectly. Selene looks in the mirror, she is not naive, she knows that she is beautiful. Her long iridescent black hair that looks like the midnight sky and during the day takes on a purple shine and her rare purple eyes that only royals have, her plump rosy lips, and her hourglass shape. But she prefers shorts and a tank top and wants to be free, at least for a little while as she has to inherit the throne as the future Queen. She is the oldest child and the future of Andora is on her shoulders. “Are you ready my baby”, she hears her mom call, snapping her out of her thoughts. She quickly puts on her cherry flavored chapstick and slides on her beautiful Moon Ring. See when Merfolk turn eighteen they are given a Moon Ring to harness and enhance their abilities. All Merfolk have a gift and only a small percentage have more than one gift. With Selene being a royal and the next heir to the throne, she has several powerful gifts. The Moon Ring she has is even rarer with the diamond looking like swirls of stars intertwining with blue streaks, almost as if the land and ocean are trying to become one. It’s the only one of its kind and was given to her just yesterday on her eighteenth birthday, it used to belong to her Grandmother the previous Queen. “How do I look mom?” she twirls, her mom is close to tears and hugs her daughter close. She hopes she finds her mate, a Prince in one of the other 3 factions. The Merworld is made up of 4 factions. Andora the North, Makara the East, Delmare the South, and Bloom the West. Not all merfolk live in the sea but rather live near the sea in their faction. Andora is known for having only Female Heirs who are beyond beautiful and gifted. Andora is the most powerful faction. She knows that the Princes’ of the other factions are hoping to be her mate. It would result in a great union bringing prosperity to all.  “I’m ready mom”, Nahla says as she walks in dressed in a beautiful black knee length dress with crystals lining the sweetheart neckline, her small luggage in hand. Nahla was adopted by the Queen and King, as just a small baby left on the door step of the Palace when Selene was but a baby herself. The Palace advisor has the gift of sight, and saw Nahla’s role in the Princess’ life as extremely important. Nahla knows that she is adopted, but she nor the Princess know of what the Advisor saw, it was kept as a secret between the Queen, King, and Advisor. They took in this little infant girl and raised her as one of their own. The Queen didn’t have the heart to send her to the orphanage, as soon as she saw Nahla she fell in love with her instantly. Nahla grew up with the same privileges, schooling, and training as her sister Selene. Although she knew she was adopted she never felt any less, as the Queen and King loved her just the same. The girls instantly connected, almost as if they were meant to always be together. The girls never fought and were inseparable. “Mom isn’t it unfair that Nahla’s birthday is tomorrow and she has to go to this awful Ball, where the the mermen and mermaids are all lusting over each other”, said Selene, although she is happy she won’t be alone and will have her sister with her for the next two days. “Not at all I can’t wait!”, Nahla exclaimed, unlike her sister she loved going out, learning new things, and meeting new people. Selene rolls her eyes at her sister, but is so excited to have her with her. “I will see you girls in two days, I have already planned a party for you my sweet girl for when you return”, Cora says to her daughter Nahla. “Here take this and open it tomorrow sweetie, your dad and I will call you tomorrow”, Cora says handing Nahla a beautiful blue shell that’s holding a Moon Ring. She had specially made for her, for her eighteenth birthday. “I want you girls to have fun and look out for each other, it feels like just yesterday I was changing diapers”, “Okay mom we love you too”, the girls said in unison as they teleported to the front of Bloom Palace. Both girls have the gift of teleportation and it definitely helps with not having to swim thousands of miles to the next faction or taking a plane, most merfolk like to stay on land or water as much as possible.
