“Why do you live here? This place closed down like five years ago,” He questioned, anger apparent in his voice. “Well,” I began before pouring everything out to him. “I was supposed to be adopted by the old caretaker of the orphanage, but at the last minute, his wife got pregnant. So they decided they didn’t want me.” I paused, choking on a cry that found its way to my throat. “And um, I guess the paperwork got lost. So I’ve been staying here ever since” my smile was trembling as I tried to keep a brave face about this hidden shame.  “The paperwork got lost?” He was facing me now, his hands unclenched and his voice soft.  “So you have been living on your own this whole time?
