Lilith
Over the next two days, I resist flashing to California. Thankfully, I work long hours, and it’s easier. However, I also couldn’t get the image of the handsome male from my mind. Though we didn’t speak, I couldn’t help but feel that we had made some kind of connection.
Now, whenever someone comes through the Café’s door, my heart speeds up at the thought that it might be him. However, I haven’t seen him since.
Lately, I’ve also noticed a presence in and out of my home. I had experienced a similar feeling for a couple of months but never as strong as I’ve felt lately. That’s another reason I didn’t seek Fallon. The last thing I want is to lead any threats to my son.
Once my shift has ended, I head to my flat. It’s late, and the streets are empty. Just as I’m about to step out of the metro entrance, a feeling rushes over me. Jaw tight, I reach for my knife and watch for any threat.
At first, everything looks normal. But then, I see the shadow rushing toward me. Flipping back, I kick the man in the chest and roll away. The male is dressed in black clothing, and I can see his face, but I can tell he’s not human and is extremely fit.
Before I run out of the door, he grips my ankle and drags me beneath him. Reeling back, I elbow him in the face and aim my knife at his neck. The male slams my arm down, wraps his hand around my neck, and growls, “Where is it?”
I twist my arm and punch him, but he avoids my strike and holds me down, “Where’s the Tenebrous?” he barks out angrily.
My brow furrows as I try to break loose, “What the bloody hell is a Tenebrous?”
He slams his palm beside my head and growls again, “Do not play games with me! Where is the Tenebrous?”
I shake my head and knee his stomach, making him grunt with pain. Seeing that I’m not going to fight using human tools, I call my power and produce a large sword.
The male twists away before I cleave him with my blade and release his own. Jaw tight, I swing at his neck, but he flinches back and blocks my strike with his blade. The fight ensues as we swing and parry. I collect all of my power and blast him. He reels back and slams against the building’s wall, finally revealing his face. It’s the gorgeous man from the café.
“Who are you?” I call out.
He circles around me, his sword still ready, “Lilith, you are hereby reprimanded by the Divinity Pantheon to explain what you’ve done with the Tenebrous. I suggest you lay your sword down and accept the invitation.”
I step back with a derisive snort, “And why the bloody hell would I want to do that, mate?”
His eyes narrow, “Don’t make me hurt you, luv. I’ve been looking for you for a long time, and I don’t intend to lose you. The Divinity is willing to speak to you, but I will have to use brutal force if you resist.”
I search my mind for what I know about The Divinity. I know they send guards after those who commit atrocities. I also know that their guards are relentless and ruthless.
Seeing that the male will not give up, I choose to attack. Our swords clash with a clang, and our bodies collide as we fight for supremacy.
“Why are you making this so difficult!” he grits gruffly.
My lip curls into a sneer, “Oh, I’m sorry if I’m making it hard for you to take me to a bunch of overbloated cunts who think they have a say over my life.”
His expression softens for a second but quickly changes to one of resolve. Jaw tight, he moves to strike, making me flinch back, then flashes behind me and wraps his hand around my neck. “I’m sorry, luv.”
Before I can ask what he means, he holds me tightly to his chest and does something that makes my vision blur. I struggle against his hold and manage to stab him in the thigh. Unfortunately, I don’t break free, and I lose consciousness.
