Chapter 6. It Has Begun

Samantha was stunned to hear the conversation of her parents . She couldn't believe it!. What was her mother talking about the classified information ? Who was the Rossi family ? She understood about the Mafia . They were criminals that lurking underground.

Samantha's mind raced. She tried to remember the lesson in her history class . There was that session when their history teacher was discussing about crime . Mafia was one of the subject they tackle. Mafias often engaged in secondary activities such as gambling , loan sharking, drug-trafficking, prostitution, and fraud.

Samantha had also known that Mafia originated in Sicily Italy. Though, she forgot who was that person who organized the organization. Yes , she remembered now , that Mafia -a criminal organization can also be referred to as a gang , crime family, mob, or syndicate .

They are also referred as the Underground people , because they were involved in an underground activities , something that was illegal and against the law.

Samantha was pacing in her bedroom. It was clear that her father was adamant to give up the classified information that was now in his possession. She understood that his father was brave enough to fight the criminals he had prosecuted in the court . But her mother was right . He won't be able to survive the Mafia family!

They were untouchable. Why was her father's so bold in chasing those criminals? What was the top secret? Father understand that he was now the target of the mob , including her mother, the twins and her grandparents! But why was father so sure about the protection the National Security had promised.?

Samantha couldn't sleep . The conversation of her parents were keep replaying on her mind. Are they in great danger? She was laying on the bed , hoping that sleep would come.

In the morning the following day , Samantha was smiling at her family in the dining room. It was Sunday morning and they had breakfast together. She could see that both her parents are tense. She could see traces of the dark eye bag of her Mom and the fine lines

was visible on her Dad's forehead.

They are not aware that she heard them fighting last night . She tried to lighten the mood. " So , four more days left and I'm going to march on the stage . with you two of course .." She told them laughing. Her Mother was looking at her. " When are you going to travel abroad.? " Ernestine asked her.

Samantha was surprised to hear Ernestine asked about traveling abroad."I beg your pardon Mom? " She wanted to be sure if she heard her right. " You said you were going to study abroad . When are you going?" She wanted to teased her Mom , that she couldn't wait to get rid of her. But the somber look in her face suggested that she was serious about it .

" Hmm..I still have to attend my graduation which will be four days from now.. and I could stay for a month here , before traveling abroad. " she informed them . Ernestine nodded. David was silent . The twins were enjoying their food. It was Samantha who knows the truth. There is something wrong with her parents . She was afraid , she wanted to talk to her father. Perhaps she could give it a try . She would like to convince him that her mother was right.

" Dad, you are not busy today , right ? she asked him ." I wish I could say that I am not busy sweetheart..but I am ." he told her.

" Ahh, you're always busy Daddy .. why is that ? Today is Sunday." Caspian joined the conversation and pouted his lips "

"Right, Sunday is family day .. Who would be working in a Sunday .? " Caleb asked.

" Daddy ! " Caspian answered his twin brother.

Samantha , was looking at her mom . Sure the two of them are not in good terms after last night's conversation . She sighed and went upstairs .

She was in her room arranging some of her clothes and books , when she heard the commotion downstairs . Her Mother was crying loudly . " Nooo!!" Ernestine was shouting. " Mom , what's wrong ..? She was almost practically running down the stairs. Her Mom was on the phone . " "What's wrong Mom.? she repeated the question.

Ernestine was shaking her head . " The flower shop.." It was all Ernestine could say. Samantha was looking at the telephone that was on her Mom's hand . Kinuha Niya ito . Kinausap ang nasa kabilang linya. It was Leana.

"Ano po ba ang nangyari ate Leana? " kinakabahang tanong Niya rito. "Nasusunog po ang flower shop.! " ngatal ang boses ni Leana habang nagsasalita. " Paanong nangyari po 'yan?

Nasusunog po ba ang flower shop? " tinatanong nito si Leana. "Oo naman , may mga chemicals naman ang mga bulaklak , hazardous waste materials na nandoon sa shop." paliwanag nito sa kaniya . tigas

Mga preskang bulaklak lang naman ang nandoon . Well , maliban sa benta nila na nasa cash register pa. Mga office documents. Nandoon pala ang opisina din ng Mommy Niya.

" Paano po bang nangyaring nasunog po ,? umiiyak na si Samantha habang nagtatanong Kay Leana. Naalaala kasi Niya na mahal ito ng kaniyang ina . It was the family's legacy.

" Ayon sa imbestigasyon may limang taong umaaligid sa shop , just this morning .. and they started the fire. " Saad ni Leana. Samantha gasped ! In a broad daylight?! The gang was working !. It has begun.! Samantha's eyes widened in shock.

" What was the commotion is all about ?" Caleb asked . He together with Caspian run down of the stairs. " The flower shop, was burned down .." The twins widened their eyes ." What ?! How.?" Caspian asked. " It was.. an accident ." Her Mom said. Parang naaalimpungatan na ang kaniyang Ina mula sa pagkabigla.

" Samantha, stay in the house with the twins. Don't go outside, the three of you, okay? " She instructed them . "Where are you going Mom? " Caspian asked Ernestine. " I'm going there.. at the flower shop." she said flatly. Agad na tumalikod na ito at humakbang palabas . " Mom, wait ." tumigil si Ernestine sa paghakbang ng tawagin ni Samantha.

"Where's Dad..? Samantha asked her Mom . "He was in the police station. " sagot ng kaniyang Ina. Hindi man lang bumaling ng tingin sa knaila. Nagmamadali itong lumabas ng bahay .

" Ate , paanong nasusunog ang mga bulaklak?" Tanong ni Caleb sa kaniya . Hindi siya nakasagot sa tanong nito. Sinadya kasing sunugin, gusto niyang sabihin sa kaniyang kapatid. " Ganoon talaga Caleb , ang aksidente ay nangyayari sa buhay ng tao. " Pagsisinungaling ni Samantha sa kaniyang kapatid. Wala namang kamuwang muwang ang mga ito sa tunay na pangyayari . " Bumalik na kayo sa kuwarto ninyo . Maglalaro kayo , o mag aaral basta huwag kayong lumabas ha ?" paalala Niya sa dalawa.

" Siyempre po , maglalaro kami . Bakit kami mag aaral , wala na pong pasok . Tapos ng final exam di ba ? Ikaw nga Ga graduate na sa biyernes . " Saad ni Caspian .

Samantha was sweating in her room . Hindi nakatulong ang air conditioner sa loob ng kaniyang silid. Natatakot siya para sa kaniyang pamilya. Ano na ang susunod na mangyayari? Aalis pa naman siya ng bansa! Baka sa susunod bahay na nila ang sunugin ? O kaya , buhay nila ay nasa panganib na . Ito ang mga gumugulo sa isipan ni Samanta.

Buong maghapon ay nasa bahay lang sila . Nababagot na siya . Hindi rin naman makadalaw sa kaniya si Kenneth . Hindi pa tapos ang inaasikaso nitong bagay , na may kaugnayan sa kaniyang pag - aaral sa koliheyo.

Gabi na ay hindi pa rin nakauwi ang kaniyang Daddy at Mommy . Medyo kinakabahan na si Samantha . Bakit kaya Gabi na ay wala pa sila , ni hindi rin tumawag . Samantha jumped at the blaring sound of her phone. Hindi pala ito naka silent mode. She picked up the call.

"Samantha , baby .." Kenneth was on the line . He sounded concern .

" Oh hello babe.. " masaya siya ma tumawag ito. Pero , hindi Niya maiwasang malungkot sa nangyari sa kanilang flower shop .Kaya hindi Niya naitago ang matamlay nitong boses.

" I'm sorry , sa nangyayari sa Inyo .." Sabi nito sa kaniya. " Oh , so ..makarating na pala sa iyo ang nangyaring sunog sa flower shop ngayong umaga.? Hindi na lang kita tinawagan, kasi alam ko na busy ka." paliwanag ni Samantha kay Kenneth. Natahimik ang nasa kabilang linya. Hindi nakapagsalita si Kenneth. Samantha thought his boyfriend hung up the phone.

"Hello , Are you still there , Ken? " Samantha said. " The flower shop was burned down ?!" Kenneth asked shocked . Si Samantha naman ang hindi nakapagsalita. Akala Niya ay alam nito ang tungkol sa sunog , dahil nag sorry siya . Ugali na kasi ng mga Pilipino na mag sorry , kahit hindi nila kasalanan ang misfortune na nangyari sa buhay ng kapwa Pilipino. "Yes , I thought you knew since you asked sorry..? ". tanong ni Samanta sa kaniya.

" Goodness , did you even watch the news'?" Samantha's heart , skip a beat. "What about the news.?" she asked Kenneth , panicked in her voice.

"Samantha, your dad .. has been ambushed .!" Samantha gasp! " No,! " The shocking news was like a blow that David had not prepared . Wala pang bente kuwatro oras. Pero kumikilos na talaga ang Rossi family . There could be no other explanation .

Gumagalaw na ang mob . " If only I was there sweetie, out of town ako ngayon . Dad and Mom are bringing me with them , pasensya ka na ."

Kenneth apologize.

" I know , sinabi mo na yan sa akin . Kaya nga ayokong madisturbo pa kita." Sabi nito sa kaniyang boyfriend. " I have to call Mom.." nagpaalam ito sa kaniya at pinutol na Niya ang kanilang usapan.

Kaya pala hindi nakauwi ang kanilang mga magulang . May masmaa na palang nagyari sa kaniyang Ama. Samantha cried. Hindi na talaga ito biro . She called her Mom . Pick up, pick up, pick up!

Her call was cancelled. And then she received a chat from her Mom. - Don't leave the house Samantha . Stay with Caspian and Caleb . I know that you already knew that you're Dad was ambushed, kaya ka tumawag di ba ? , He's stable now . I'm here , with him . Kaya, huwag ka nang mag alala. Sa bahay na lang tayo mag -uusap . Para sa katahimikan mo , sa braso lang tumama ang bala . He'll live. Bukas ka na lang pumunta dito sa ospital . - Ito ang laman ng chat ng kaniyang Ina.

Samantha cried while reading the chat . This is very obvious. Galit na galit sa kaniyang Daddy ang mob . Bakit naman kasi ayaw pa nitong ibigay ang classified information na pinaghahanap ng mob.

The next day , which is Monday. Nagpaalam si Samantha sa kaniyang guro na hindi siya makasama sa pag eensayo sa graduation. Alam naman Niya ang kaniyang valedictory address. She had memorize the graduation song too.

Pagdating ng kaniyang Ina ay agad Niya itong tinanong sa detalye. " Mom , I heard the conversation you had with Dad , about the mob ." she confessed to her Mom. " Who are the Rossi family ? Where is that classified information , you were talking about? It was very obvious that the mob was behind the incident this morning and this evening.!" Nanlaki ang mga mata ni Ernestine sa kumpisal ng anak . " You know...?" " Yes Mom , and they won't stop until they get that s**t!."
