She hurried along the corridor to where the bedrooms were. At the far end of it there was the room that had been the Master’s ever since the house had been built. It was a bit larger than all the other State Bedrooms and there were four diamond-paned windows in it besides a large open fireplace where it was possible to burn half a tree! The beams of the ceiling were expertly carved and two of the walls were panelled. But it was impossible to look at anything but the huge four-poster. It was of oak and carved with animals, people and ships, all things familiar to the ancient craftsmen. It was not very high, but wide and surmounting the front of it was the Falcon crest with its Latin motto carved beneath it.
