Surprised, Vic dug his keys out of his pocket and fiddled with them for a moment in the hallway’s bad light until he managed to find the one that fit the door. He turned it in the lock, then placed a hand on the doorknob and felt a steady bass beating like a heart in the palm of his hand. As he opened the door, heavy music poured out into the hall.
