When Drake heard Lucy, he got up from his chair and looked around the room. He noticed that all the women were laughing at him while the men all gave him pitying glances. He could not understand what had happened. The women's expressions clearly read “You deserve this!!” which was what had scared him the most about the situation.
“What happened, Lucy? Did the President fire me from my job at the company?” Drake asked her even though he was terrified of her answer. His heart was beating rapidly. He knew that if he had lost his position at the company then he would not be able to obtain any job again for the rest of his life, he would be doomed. Any future that he could have made for himself would be over. The sheer delight on the women's faces was a sign that something had happened to him. He was examining Lucy's face hoping to get a read on the situation as he waited for a reply. Her beautiful face was tense now which alarmed him further. He had never seen her like this. He couldn’t help but wonder what happened after he had left the office.
“No, the President did not fire you from your position in the company,” she assured as she looked at Drake. As he heard her, he let out a relieved sigh. He thanked God for small miracles but his heart continued with its rapid pace. His brain persisted to mull over what could be going on. If he had not lost his job then, why were these women so happy? He thought as he watched them.
They were still giving him their signature bitchy looks. To be honest the entire department was looking at him. What could the President do to him? And why Lucy looked so tense, he thought to himself.
“Then what is it?” he asked her as he got closer to her. That was when they all noticed Edward’s bodyguards passing by the front of the department looking very dangerous. They all had all seen him before but Drake was seeing them for the first time. Drake noted the serious expressions they had on their faces and that they appeared rather threatening. If they were like this then their boss would be nothing less than the demon he thought, he was a little nervous around them. Lucy had also been watching them before she turned back to Drake.
“We were all waiting for the President's arrival but when he got here everything changed. He is a very angry and arrogant type of man. He made the Manager kneel before him like he was a dog. His bodyguards treated the Manager like he was some little more than dirt.
“He looked at everyone as if he were searching for someone special then he grew furious. He knew that one person he had been searching for was missing from the meeting. I don’t know how he figured out that one person was missing as he had never been to the company before. But he somehow knew that not everybody was there. He yanked the Manager up to his enraged face demanding to be told why everyone was not there?
“He was crying and pleading with him but he only grew further infuriated witnessing the Manager breakdown like that. That was when one of the employees said that the ‘pretty boy is missing.’ Apparently your whole department calls you this behind your back, just so you know. But when the President heard him he became completely incensed as he walked over and punched the employee in the face, then fired him from his position in the company. I have no clue why he was so aggravated. But like I said that guy got completely sacked at the meeting. Now that man will never be able to find another job, thanks to our new President’s reputation.
“Once he had finished laying that guy out, the President turned to the Manager and informed him that the person who had not attended the meeting would be his secretary. He then told him to send you to him directly when you returned to the office. He did not ask where you had gone. Or why you were not at the meeting. He just said that you are his secretary, I don’t know what his intentions are Drake.” Lucy finished filling Drake in on everything that he had missed while he had been out of the office helping Emma, though he couldn’t help but notice the note of worry in her voice.
“What!!” Drake yelped in fear and shock. He could not believe his ears. He had thought that the President would fire him from his job at the company because he had not been at the meeting but this insanely dangerous man had made him his secretary. But why? He had been sure that the President would choose a beautiful, highly educated woman.
“He does not know me. He has never even seen me before yet he’s announced that I am his secretary,” Drake wondered out loud to Lucy. He just wanted confirmation from her about what she had said.
“Yes,” Lucy affirmed though he still could not believe it. He was not that well educated, he worked in a lower department. Yet the President had just made him his secretary, the more important thing was he was a man, not a woman. He and just about everyone else in the building had thought that the President would select a woman as his secretary.
“Now you have to go to his office,” Lucy prompted Drake, whose nervousness had risen exponentially. He had heard about the President, he was a menacing and arrogant man but now Drake was his secretary. On top of that he had not attended the meeting which meant that the President must be feeling offended at the lack of respect that Drake had shown him. Lucy had just told him what he had done to the Manager. So what did that mean he had in store for him? Had the President wanted to give him some kind of punishment or demotion. He knew that was the most logical reason for the man to have requested his presence, otherwise there would be no point.
He looked at the women, who had been laughing at his situation because they knew what Edward would do with Drake? They had already witnessed Edward in action, how he treated the Manager and that employee. Drake turned his gaze away from them as he focused on Lucy, who looked like she was about to cry.
Lucy was worried that she would lose Drake. They had been working together since the beginning, but now Drake was going to lose his job. Drake read her expression and smiled at her.
"Don't worry. I knew that I would lose my job, no one else is responsible for this. I am the only one responsible for this, if you wouldn’t mind helping me by packing my things I would greatly appreciate it. I will bring them back home when I leave the President’s office," Drake told Lucy with a reassuring smile. Lucy could tell that he was just smiling for show, but in reality he was sad and afraid. They had been friends since college, they knew everything about each other.
Drake began walking to the President’s office. Everyone in his department watched him as he left. The women were laughing at him. Lucy glared at them with no small amount of venom and loathing as she wanted to kill them. The men were all upset for him, they knew that now they would not be able to steal glances of Drake's beauty everyday. They were also looking at the woman with annoyance. The women just smirked at them then walked away while cackling with glee. Drake heard their sound of joy but did not bother to look at them, it was not new for him.
Drake had been working here for over a year and his was the lowest department. He never went to visit any of the other departments because they were all higher up than he was. This was the first time that he was going to explore more of the company. The office was large and beautiful. He saw that there were a number of people who were working diligently like machines.
Their clothes were expensive and professional. They were focused on their work until they caught movement out of the corner of their eye, then they began to turn their heads to see the new face who had just entered their domain. They all seemed rather surprised as they took in Drake's beauty blatantly checking him out.
Some of the women were shocked when they looked at him. Some of the men smirked at him. He turned his gaze away from them, walking straight ahead but he did not know where the President's office was located. He had been searching for it. He even thought about asking someone for assistance but they were all busy with their work. Those that weren’t busy were staring at him total creeps. He turned on his heel to the right to look down there when he bumped into someone. Drake felt like he had walked into a wall.
"Oh, dude are you okay?" Drake heard a man's voice causing him to look up. He realized that there was a handsome man standing in a black blazer in front of him. He was super hot, all the women in the department were underdressing him with their eyes. His smile was literally making some of them drool. Drake had also noticed that he had an amazing smile and his voice was incredibly sexy. But he brought himself back from his musing when he realized that he had been acting like a pervert.
"I am sorry sir, that was my fault," he apologized, bowing before him. He had not appeared to be an employee here like everyone else. He looked like a wealthy person. The clothing that he wore was designer. His shoes, his watch, everything about him screamed how rich he was. Drake looked at him and became scared. Was he the President!! He screamed at himself in his mind, now he was going to receive an even steeper punishment. First for not attending the meeting then a second time for walking into him.
"No, bro. it was my mistake really," the handsome stranger said with a smile. Drake admittedly got lost in his smile for a second. This man had not looked like the person that Lucy had described earlier. She had told him that the new President was a pompous jerk. But this man seemed to be the exact opposite, he was the friendly type of guy. Drake smiled in return and nodded his head. He had realized that this man was not his jerk boss.
"So where are you going? I have not seen you around before. Are you a new employee?” He asked Drake with curiosity. Drake had noticed that he was not looking at him differently like everyone else seemed to. He was glad someone in this office was different.
"No, I am not a new employee. I have been working here for a little over a year but in one of the lower departments," Drake explained to him with a small smile.
"Oh, okay. What are you doing up here?" He asked Drake, that was when he remembered that he had to go to see the President and he had just been wasting his time with this chit chat.
"I am here to meet with the President," he said, trying to keep the smile on his face. Drake was once again searching trying to find his office. That man looked at Drake carefully then smiled.
“Nice to meet you, Drake,” he greeted, then hugged him out of nowhere. Drake could not understand why he had hugged him, but the bigger question was how had he known his name? He hugged Drake tightly like he was his long lost best friend. Drake had thought long and hard before hugging him back but it was a bit awkward. The entire office was observing them like they were some kind of science experiment. So eventually he gave in and returned the hug, otherwise the man might have felt offended. Then he moved away from him.
“How do you know my name? Have we met before?” Drake asked him, he knew he had never met him, but this man knew his name. It was a bit strange to him. He had been waiting for his answer, but the man only smiled at him.
"Go straight and turn left, his office is there," he instructed Drake. He wished him best of luck as he walked away. Drake watched him leave, he could not understand what the man had meant by best of luck. He was going to lose his job so why had he wished Drake the best of luck? He let out a sad sigh as he made his way in the direction the handsome man had instructed..
Drake had been getting closer to the President’s office but had not idea what would be waiting for him there. His heart had been telling him not to go inside. He just wanted to run away from there. Lucy and everyone else's fear of this man had scared him to death. He did not know why, but Drake had been losing his confidence.
