Prologue
Emily's POV
I keep looking outside the small plane window, smiling at myself, and marvelling at the same time, at how I managed to somehow be making my way to France in a private jet, to start working for a mysterious young billionaire. OK, I don't really know if he's young or not, but I chose to believe he's not not some old creepy dude.
It's messy and confusing, but my new job venture requires me to move there, and I dove into it head first, accepting all of the terms of the new position, without questioning them much. It's so exciting how I'm basically an investigator now. I don't know a lot regarding my new role, but what I do know is that I am meant to be searching for a lost heirloom.
My life did a total 180 in the last couple of days. It's almost funny, I literally went from being married, a stay at home wife that was living in London, to getting divorced and having to completely start over from scratch. And I mean it. I was really left with nothing, but it's not like I wanted anything else than to be free of that cage that ultimately was my marriage.
I even surprised myself when I accepted a random job offer from a person I've just met in a coffee shop for the first time ever. I'm not even sure which one is the craziest between the two of us. Her, by offering a job to a complete stranger, or me, by accepting the offer on the spot. But I really believe in everything happening for a reason, so there has to be a bigger plan that requires Lucille to be in the same coffee shop as I was, at the exact same moment. There has to be some sort of a master plan of the Universe, that made us connect in such a way that she decided to help me out. That, or I was the lowest level of pitiful and she couldn't help herself. I chose not to believe the later.
I need to pinch myself to make sure it's real, that I'm not dreaming, merely fantasizing at how my life could have been. Yup, it hurts, so I'm definitely not dreaming, this is as real as it gets. How did I get here? I guess It all started a few weeks ago, on my birthday.
