“Who is my mother? What is her name? What does she look like? How old was she when she gave birth to me?” Sibyl asked many questions about her mother in one breath.
“My girl,” said the witch, touching her hair, “I can't tell you the answers to these questions right now. Witches are not allowed to marry humans without permission. It's about your safety and your mother's reputation. I still don't know what happened 18 years ago. I'll give you an answer when I know everything.”
“I. . .” Sibyl bit her lip. She wanted to know the answer now, but her thoughtfulness and kindness made her reluctant to push the witch.
“What... What is your relationship with my mother? May I know the answer to this question?” Sibyl changed the question.
