Sibyl’s POV
I shook off Azariah's hand, picked up a glass of cold water and gulped it down.
The cold water went down my throat and into my stomach, relieving my drunkenness and making me more sober.
“How are you feeling?” Azariah asked me with concern. “Let me take you to my room to rest.”
My instinct tells me not to go with her.
I'm a little drunk right now, and I'll probably fall asleep. If that's the case, they can do anything they want to me, including ruining my reputation.
In our country, women enjoy much less freedom than men. Women's chastity and loyalty are highly valued and they trap women like chains. A woman who makes out with a man other than her husband will be despised by everyone.
It's not fair, but it's something all women have to think about in order to survive.
