With the restrains of the Mythical Detective’s power removed, the clash between Grimm and the ambushing Bullworms ended with the latter side’s m******e.
Blasted by the waves of unfocused dark aura from Grimm and Specter’s fused souls, the Bullworm’s were crashed with a loud boom onto the ground and surrounding cave walls before they were bombarded by transparent and bluish colored bullets that perfectly pierced through their weak spots, inflicting either a double damage, exploding damage, and at worst, an Instant Death.
“Field Perception.”
Afterwards, Grimm murmured and activated his Field Perception, the same Life Trace that he received from Deidre which was upgraded stunningly when he changed his Profession. And through that, he detected six more Bullworms crawling under the ground, waiting for the Fanged Esurient Bullworm to give them the Go Signal.
Well, Grimm didn’t allow those poor Bullworms to wait in vain for an order that will never arrive from their dying leader. He aimed his Deathbringers at them and rained them with bullets, losing their lives without even realizing what had hit them.

As for the devious lizard [Sanzard] and the hypnotized giant worm [Fanged Esurient Bullworm], both of them barely retain a percent of their Maximum Health Points, thus, making it a perfect opportunity for Specter to get rid of them through his ‘Predation’.

Soul Eater [Active: Beginner Level 6 (57.18%)]
For reaching [Soul Eater • Beginner LVL5]~[Specter • Maturity LVL2], a new function had been unlocked.
[Predation]
Activation of the Soul Eater is no longer just limited through the use of your darkness clad Left-Hand. Though still an infant, after reaching Maturity Level 2, Specter is now capable of consuming his preys on his own given that the conditions for soul eating are met.
New Effect: Depending on the quality, uniqueness, and rarity of the soul eaten, there’s a probability that Specter’s Predation will absorb and assimilate the characteristic of the soul, resulting into the creation of a new STAT, SKILL, or something which is completely NEW.
Effect does not apply on the standard Soul Eating. Specter’s direct predation is required.

Since their departure from the Forest of Illusion, Grimm had used his Left-Hand to consume hundreds to thousands of monsters in order to both feed Specter and to analyze the full function of the Soul Eater. And as a result, both Specter and the Soul Eater gained growths and level ups, enabling Specter to mature enough to be able to fly at a low height and a short distance and to utilize direct predation which gave them the chance to absorb and assimilate the characteristics of the eaten soul.
Through that, Grimm acquired two new skills before reaching Cleo. First was his very first Black Magic Spell ‘Black Tempest’.

A powerful Black Magic that brings destruction to masses of enemies at once. However, it’s a skill that gets to be sealed whenever he used Shadowclad. Not to mention that the casting time despite his high DEX and INT still takes him 15 seconds to complete. Therefore, he doesn’t get much chance using it. And even if he does, for a soloist adventurer like him who doesn’t have party members to protect him during the casting period, the usage of the spell is deemed an inconvenience.
And then the other was his signature Drill Burst punch, in which during his first few weeks in the Labyrinth under the guise of Wilhelm had been his main Hand-to-Hand combat attack due to his weaponless state.
Both skills were created from the soul of the Drill-Nosed Demon Mole Boor Mangeni, the troublesome Guardian Deity of the Man-Eating Forest whom they had accidentally awakened when they devoid the entire forest of any monster due to repetitive soul predation. As it turns out, voiding the Man-Eating Forest of monsters before the end of the respawning cooldown is the triggering condition to bring forth and fight the Level 300 Guardian Deity.
Back then, Grimm was only Level 115, so even with the full power of the Deathbringers and the God King Essence at his disposal, the fierce battle was barely won due to the huge and evident gap in power and levels. And if it weren’t for Specter’s continuous attempts to predate Boor Mangeni while the battle was ongoing and therefore restricting several of his movements, Grimm doesn’t know if it would have still concluded with his victory.

Well, upon hearing the ringing sound of a notification, Grimm snapped from his thoughts and watched as Specter’s small body turned into a slime-like substance that engulf Sanzard and Fanged Esurient Bullworm whole.

Then, he waited if the current [Soul Eater • Predation] will create something interesting. However, after Specter had completely devoured the two souls, nothing happened aside from replenishing his Soul Satiety and having a nice leap on his Maturity progress.
Grimm breathed a heavy sigh of disappointment. Guess he can’t expect much from the souls of those two. The Fanged Esurient Bullworm is just a Special Monster, so there’s nothing extraordinary about its soul. Sanzard is the same. He might be a Boss Monster but he’s just an strengthened version of his race. He cannot be compared to Boor Mangeni who isn’t just a Boss but is also a Unique Monster with a Deity Guardian title and an entire forest under his name.
When Specter was done with his meals, he flew back towards Grimm who is now sitting cross-legged on the cold ground. He landed at the top of his left knee where he was immediately petted the moment that he’s comfortably nestled.
“How are you feeling, buddy?” Grimm, carrying a mix expression of relief and worry, asked.
“Caw.” He’s fine, was Specter’s answer. Aside from the pesky Sleep Hex that tormented him for months, he stated and assured to Grimm that the ‘Predation’ of the Lotus Witch’s soul didn’t convey any other drawback.
Utterly thankful upon knowing that, Grimm sighed in relief and recalled the events from three months ago that had brought them into this unexpected turn of events.
