Chapter 24: The Whereabouts of the Precious and the Dangerous Partner 1

“Thank you for everything.” Grimm said to Loki. And not just for the Class Change, the new weapons, and the new skills. But for everything that he’d taught and imparted to him as Bart, Amradias, and Stellio. If it weren’t for his guidance then he might still be struggling to gain power right now.

“The pleasures are all mine,” was his reply. “However, the Trial does not end here. Now that the Successor had been named, I’m sure that they had now awakened from their slumber.”

“They?”

“The other Six Grand Knights,” he answered. “When God King Halcyon gave us His earthly might to be passed down to His Successor, that power was divided into 7 parts, one for each Grand Knight.”

Grimm’s eyes express a slight glint of shock. Though he had somehow expected that scenario considering that there are Seven Grand Knights mentioned in God King Halcyon’s story, there’s still the possibility that the other six are also just searching like Loki. Therefore, he didn’t place much thought about it not unless that assumption is confirmed by Loki himself.

‘So that means that the power of the Mythical Detective is still incomplete.’

“You might find it hard to believe considering how overwhelming the power of the Successor is. But believe me when I say that what you are right now is not even a quarter of the full extent of the God King’s power.”

Grimm was delighted but overwhelmed at the same. The Mythical Detective, just as it is, is almost a cheat character. And now, Loki just confirmed that it’s still incomplete. That it’s barely a quarter of its full power. Not that he’s complaining, but he can only imagine the extent that this Profession could accomplish once it reaches completion.

‘Wait a minute. Could this mean that…?’ Grimm began forming predictions in his head but wagged those thoughts for now. It’s not yet time to involve his self in such matters. The journey is barely starting.

“Any hint where I can find them?” Grimm asked.

Loki sadly shook his head. “Unfortunately, no. After the Ascension of the God King, his Empire was divided into separate Kingdoms among his children and the Order of the Grand Knights was disbanded. We Seven, knowing that the search for the Successor would take us a lifetime devised an approach in which one of us will contain the main essence of the God King’s power, thus, granting him the privilege to cross the aeons unchanged and name a Successor while the other Six will have their Souls sealed in an unknown place, awaiting for a Successor to be named and find them to claim the rest of the God King’s power from their possession.”

Grimm nodded. ‘So that was the case.’ Though their chosen method was cliché and unoriginal, very common among fantasy themed stories and shows, it was the best choice and the best challenge nonetheless. “Alright, I understand.”

“Very well then, I shall assist you now for your departure.”

“Wait!” Loki was in the verge of implementing something to send him out but immediately stops him. “There are a couple of things I wish to discuss before I go.”

“Tell me.”

“First is about the Precious, the ancient weapons that assisted the God King in conquering Avelot. Did he take those weapons with him?”

Once more, Loki shook his head. “No, like all of His possessions, the God Weapons remained in the earthly realm.

Just as he suspected. “Do you know where they are?” Grimm asked, hopeful.

“No and Yes,” he said. “No, the locations of the God Weapons were never disclosed to us Grand Knights by the God King. However, I know someone who certainly does.”

“Who?”

“Just like His power and His Empire, the God Weapons, knowing how dangerous they are were also entrusted into a group of people that He trust. And those people are his Magisters and Scholars whom he’d tasked to scatter and seal his weapons all over the continents.”

“That doesn’t make any sense.” Grimm frowned. “If those weapons were that dangerous then why did he left them? Why didn’t he just take them back to the High Heavens along with him?”

“That’s because of you.”

“Now you’re the one who’s not making any sense. How is it my fault? I wasn’t even there.”

Loki chuckled on his reaction. “I’m sorry. What I actually mean is that the God King lives through you. You are his second persona and the God Weapons recognizes that. So as long as a God King exists in this earthly realm, those weapons will persist as well. And…I forgot to mention this but just like the other Grand Knights, the God Weapons will also awaken from their slumbers the moment that the Successor is named.”

“The hell!? How can you forget to tell me such crucial matter? And to think that you almost kick me out.”

“My deepest apologies,” he sincerely inclined his head in regret.

“So going back.” Grimm said, returning the matters to the main topic. “These Magisters, I’m sure that unlike you they didn’t take some sort of immortality pill, so they’re certainly all long gone now. So that being the case, how am I supposed to extract anything from them?”

“That won’t be problem,” he said proudly while throwing out his chest. “During my travels these past two thousand years, I had tracked down several legacies left by those connected to the God King including their surviving descendants.”

“Again, you almost kick me out without telling me that.”

“Once again, my deepest apologies,” he inclined his head again. “Anyway, kindly accept these knowledges I had acquired throughout my extended lifetime.”

“Don’t mind if I do.”

Grimm smiled. With these information, he’ll have a hint where to start. Right now, his main priority is to find the other Grand Knights and complete his Profession. And though he has zero clues on where to find them, doing quests related to the God King will surely bring him to them one way or another. And at the moment, the closest things that can connect him to them are the Precious that were left behind by God King Halcyon.

“Now, for the other thing,” Grimm pulled out something from his bag that made Loki’s eyes widened in horror.

“Those are?”

The items in Grimm’s hand are the Eight Essence Fragments of the Night King. “I believe you have something that belongs to him.”

“What do you mean?”

“You know it’s no use playing ignorance on me, Loki. Like I told you before, you’re not a very good actor. As Stellio, you lied to me when I ask for help with the fragments. And also, I know that the missing piece of the Night King’s Essence is in your possession. I knew that because you used it to create the persona of Amradias.”

Loki’s face paled at Grimm’s words. As expected, it’s impossible to hide things from him.

Loki sighed in defeat. “I was actually hoping that you won’t figure it out but I guess it’s impossible,” he said and summoned an orange-sized black metallic ball against his palm. “This is the Darkness of the Night King.”

But instead of taking it, Grimm instead asked. “Why didn’t you want me to have it? You must have your reasons.”

Loki clenched the Night King’s darkness and replied. “I didn’t want you to have it because the Night King is a very dangerous existence. You remember the second form of the Dark Shackles of Amradias?”

Grimm nodded. The second version of the Dark Shackles has the effect to delete a User’s character within 24 hours if the caster is not killed. Grimm clearly remembers that skill because it was the first time that he encountered such thing that can actually destroy a User’s immortality in the game.

“That power belongs to the Night King. In the history of Avelot, all those who attempted to subdue the Night King’s power were all consumed, both in body and soul with God King Halcyon as the only exemption. But even he didn’t dare to clad himself much of its power.”

“So technically, you’re worried about me.”

Loki nodded sheepishly. “You’re the Successor of the God King. Therefore, I cannot risk having such a menacing being anywhere near you. So please do…”

“Nonsense!” Grimm cut him off, snatching the Night King’s darkness from his hand. “You’re worrying too much on such trivial matters.”

“…W-what?..”

“Loki, remember this and remember this well. I may be no God King but I am still the singularity that took you two thousand years to find. It will take more than a soul eating crow to get rid of me.” And in a softer tone, he added, “I can handle this, you can count on that.”

Loki tried to reason out again but immediately closes his lips. And though for a few fleeting seconds, the Trickster Knight remains hesitant on Grimm’s decision. The moment that he saw the strong and unwavering conviction in the eyes of the Successor, he too had made a resolve for himself to trust him fully. “I understand.”

Grimm smiled and nodded. “Alright then, now that everything had been settled. You can show me out now.”

“As you wish,” he said and pulled out his staff. And by slamming it on the floor, the magic circle shines brightly once again.

“By the way, what will happen to you now?” Grimm asked as his body slowly disperse into fragments of lights.

“Every time you passed a Trial of a Grand Knight, their Souls will be released from their Sealing. Thus, granting them the freedom to enter this Spirit Realm,” he answered. “I will stay here and wait for their arrival.”

“Then you better wish me luck then.”

“Good luck, Young Master.”

Therefore, even with his current Level of 90, a Warrior Class with a Level of 200 can’t even be considered a worthy opponent for him. He can beat 3-4 of them while yawning.

However, base from Loki’s stories, he’d already figured out the True Purpose of the Mythical Detective. That is why that even with his current might, being contented and being confident with it is far from his mind.

‘To fulfill the Purpose of my Profession, even the completion of this power won’t be enough.’ Grimm thought as he considered all the factors. ‘Aside from finding the other Grand Knights, I also need to get stronger on my own.’

Grimm had already made the calculations in his head. And with his current pace, he’s severely behind the target figures. That’s why he found Loki’s worries regarding the Night King to be petty. Loki had lied to him about having the Darkness in his possession but he was telling the truth when he said that he doesn’t have a means to fuse the fragments. So that’s left him to do it on his own.

“The best course of action is to find a Soul Artisan. However….” The Shadow Crow is a Mythical Creature directly connected to the God King. Therefore, the complexity of its nature specifically its soul is surely in a whole different level than anything that the present era had ever encountered. So entrusting it into a different party will surely prove to be risky.

But as he was having those thoughts, the sound of a new notification rang against his ears.
