‘You would not chance to know where she is to be found?’ she said, in a whisper. No immediate reply came. Gussie waited, and after a few minutes there came a ripple of movement at her elbow. Lady Honoria’s head shimmered into brief and hazy view. ‘The drawing-room,’ she hissed. ‘Chance favours us. Thank you, Aunt.’ The head disappeared again, and Gussie proceeded to her aunt’s withdrawing-room.
