Chapter ElevenIf it was a dream, Ben couldn't be sure. He'd passed out, almost as soon as the man spoke to him. And now, blinking into the white sky, of that man, there was no sign. He sat up, and all he saw were the wagons and Trevor, lying on the ground. Pulling himself up, he gave his friend a sharp push with his foot. Trevor stirred, then yelped, clutching at his shin, the pain creasing through his features. Releasing a rasping sigh of agony, eyes squeezed shut, he surrendered to Ben's gentle arms, helping him to his feet. He looked at his friend, a single tear rolling down his cheek, “Ben, God Almighty, you saved me.” Ignoring him, Ben laced his arm around his friend's waist and, together, they hobbled away from the shunting yard, struggling across the marshes, every inch feeling lik
