Chapter SeventeenIt was a brighter day as Ben walked away from his friend's house. Not because of the weather, which was still dismal, but because he found Trevor in such good spirits. A painful anti-tetanus injection meant he still couldn't go out, but his leg and face were both on the mend. Laid up in bed, radio on full blast, drinking Ovaltine and eating digestive biscuits, his eyes sparkled with contentment. Ben couldn't help smiling as he left. Strolling along the winding path curled away from Trevor's door, Ben paused to gaze towards the railways embankment and, there on the far side, Darley Dene. Lost in thought, his smile faded.
