CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

AUGUST I do not know when I decided to get involved in this madness, I must have been in some kind of trance when I told Bastian that I would take care of making possible a meeting of him with Elina, because it is basically the worst idea that we could have come up with, but I know if I didn't help him with it he was going to end up doing it alone and would probably get into worse trouble, or even be killed if he decided to talk to the wrong people and they led him right into a trap. So, I decided to open my big mouth and volunteer for the task, not even thinking that it would turn out to be much more difficult than I could have imagined; starting with the research I had to do for days, trying to find someone who had some kind of connection with the red army, but of course, no one was willing to admit it openly, and I couldn't just ask, because that would have raised too many suspicions, in addition to that we must be careful in these times of war, and even more so with the background of Elina's father since there could be more spies among us. After the third day of inquiries and when I was about to give up on my plan, I heard something interesting in the training ground when, as usual, some members of the elite group who belong to different packs, began to fight over some stupidity, and that is when one of them said the magic words: "Better go back to your shitty pack, they will surely need you soon when they decide to quit the charade and join the red army," shouted one of them, who apparently was from the Sapphire pack. "Moonstone is not a shitty pack, you are just hurt that our alpha who is a woman kicked the ass of all the other alphas," replied the boy alluded to by the insult. "Oh, come on, everyone knows that Moonstone is a nest of traitors and change-sides, most of them come from the old overthrown kingdom, and they surely cannot wait to change sides again," the first of them told him just before being punched in the mouth, and after that it was impossible to understand anything they were saying to each other because most of them were already involved in a fight that I had to stop. At the end of the training and when everyone was leaving, I called the Moonstone boy, who, despite having received the worst part in the fight, managed to send two warriors to the hospital and then continue training as if nothing had happened. "Can I ask you some questions?" I told him, and he instantly paled. "Of course, Your Highness," he replied immediately, and I tried in vain to hide my annoyance at the title he decided to use, for even though I don't like being referred to as Your Highness, I cannot deny the fact that once my father died, the title of duke passed to me directly. "What was that boy referring to about the comments on the Moonstone pack?" I asked him, and he seemed a bit upset that I had brought it up. "Well, they are just stupid rumors actually, and mainly they arise because many families in my pack actually belonged to the Bloodmoon kingdom, so people assume that now that the war with the Rogue Queen has started, then we will switch sides," he replied with a shrug. "The Rogue Queen?" I asked him amused, because of all the nicknames that have been given to Elina, that was the first time I had heard that they referred to her in that way. "Yes, that is what the warriors started calling her after the Red Army crowned her as their queen," he replied as if it were obvious, and I was totally in shock. "Wait, what?" I asked him, and the boy paled almost instantly, as if he had just noticed the mistake he made. “I… well, that is what I heard,” he stammered, but my interest was already piqued, and I wasn't going to let it go. "Who did you hear it from?" I asked him right away, and he seemed uncomfortable. "Excuse me, Your Highness, I really don't want to get anyone in trouble," he replied, and I had to force a smile for the boy to calm down a bit. "You are not going to get anyone in trouble, I promise," I told him vehemently, and after he considered it for a moment, he finally decided to respond. “A few years ago, the niece of the baker in my pack, who lost her parents in the war and was left in the care of her aunt, ran away from the kingdom, and according to the rumors she joined the Red Army, who first gave the information about the rogue queen was his younger cousin, who is quite reckless and constantly likes to run away into the woods, apparently he ran into his cousin, Camille, on one of his escapades, and she was the one who told him about the queen,” he told me, and I started to smile like an i***t when I heard that information. "And the boy kept in contact with his cousin?" I asked him, and he just shook his head. "I don't know, and if he had stayed in contact, I don't think he would tell anyone because his mother gave him a good reprimand after that day," the boy replied, and I nodded thoughtfully. "I need you to do something for me," I told him, and he immediately agreed. "Bring that boy to see me without his mother finding out, tell him it's an urgent matter and that he can't tell anyone, and you can't tell anyone about this either, understand?" I told him, and he nodded, then he went to his pack, and to my surprise, he returned a couple of hours later with the boy who seemed terrified that he had been taken to the palace. And although at first, it was difficult for me to convince him that he was not going to get into trouble but quite the opposite, and that it was a matter of life and death, he finally agreed to tell me how little he knew, and also to contact his cousin to send her my message. "I will have to send the message to her with someone else, because she is in the Crimson Woods with the Rogue Queen," he replied. "How do you know that?" I asked. "She told me that she would leave the last time we met in the forest, in reality, she is not a traitor, nor a spy, I do not know if she is going to help us, because the only reason she talks to me is to ask me how is My mother and my brothers, the little I know about the rogue queen is because it has slipped from her in some conversation, but she assured me that no wolf of the red army would harm me because she had warned them that I am her family, so I think it's safe to send her the message through one of them,” the boy told me, and I nodded. "But don't send the most important message, just ask her to meet you, and if she comes, then give her the message I just told you," I ordered, and he nodded solemnly before leaving. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Three days have passed since the boy came running to tell me that he had met his cousin and had given her the message for Elina, and although at first, I expected her to react violently, as I feared that she might have retaliated against the boy’s cousin for meeting with him, this morning came the answer in which she agreed to meet with me, but under certain conditions. "The Rogue Queen says that she will only agree to meet with His Highness, but not with the King," the boy begins to list the conditions and I nod since I was already waiting for that one. "Also, that it will be in the rogue castle or else she won't go anywhere else," he continues and I internally curse, as I really hoped it would be on a more neutral ground. "And first you must meet with my cousin Camille so that she can guide you to the meeting place," he says, and I frown, because I suppose that is the way Elina wants to make sure it is not an ambush, or that I am telling lies, sending someone first to make sure everything is in order. "Okay Damian, you did a good job, now please remember that you can't tell anyone about this," I replied to the boy, who instantly nodded and then left happy with his reward. And the next day, when I was waiting for Damian's cousin in the forest surrounding the northern border of the kingdom, on high alert waiting for some kind of attack, that is when I saw her arrive with her hair fluttering behind her as if It was a sacred flame in the middle of the forest, and the moment her intense blue eyes fell on me, I felt all the air come out of my lungs as if someone had just hit me hard in the stomach, and then I caught her scent and I knew immediately that she was not an ordinary girl, and that in fact, I could be seeing my fated mate walking towards me with a suspicious gaze. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
