As soon as I leave the room and leave Elina and the babies behind, I head to the room assigned to me by King Arnold on the wing opposite to the one where Elina and her people are staying, one of my royal guards, that has been stationed outside the door all this time follows me closely, and as I am approaching my room for tonight, I see another of my guards finishing inspecting the section of the palace my men will be staying in, so I nod in his direction to indicate that everything is in order, and before entering the room I order them both to go with August to help in the search.
As soon as they leave and the door closes behind me, I flop onto the bed with a sense of defeat building inside me, and even though I try not to think about it, Elina's words repeat themselves over and over again in my head, the hatred in her words, and the pain that emanated from her eyes, which for an instant returned to the beautiful caramel color that I have always remembered, and not the cold gold that they are now; I knew that she held a grudge against me for what had happened, I knew it and that is why I was desperately looking for her, so I could try to explain everything that happened that awful day.
And now that I was able to have the babies so close to me, whose names I do not even know, I am more than sure that they are the product of the love we had for each other and the bond that tied us together, I feel it inside me, even when she refuses to accept it, I know it is true, and now I need to find a way to show her that I am not guilty of anything that I am accused of, but I know that it will not be easy because all the evidence that she has obtained so far incriminates me in a strong way; And it doesn't help that she is now married to that jerk, who has surely been doing everything possible to make her distrust me and my people.

I don't know how good an idea it was to come to this place, I know it was the logical first choice in our search for answers, but everything seems to have become even more complicated, no one has found answers, my warriors are as lost as Elina's, and now that August had to work alongside the girl who is apparently his fated mate, he seems even more distracted than the first time he met her, and it doesn't help the fact that the redhead seems as determined to ignore him, as Elina to ignore me.
In addition to the fact that Elina's warriors seem to distrust every move my men make, and have been watching us with suspicious since they arrived at this place, they refused to eat at the same table as us so the palace staff arranged them at another table at the far end of the room, and Elina didn't even bother to go downstairs for dinner, but I did notice the redhead gathering some food on a plate and then taking it upstairs, however, a few minutes later she came back downstairs with the plate intact and a concerned expression, which makes me frown right away.
"It is not your problem to fix," August murmurs next to me.
"What?" I ask him and notice that he is also looking at the redhead, so he may have noticed the situation with Elina.
"We came here to find answers, not for you to be behind her like a lapdog begging for her forgiveness, I heard what happened before, apparently all the palace staff heard the argument you two had, and what we need the least now is that the other kingdoms start talking about it, you have to be able to control yourself when you are around her, or else you are going to make her disappear again and the attacks will surely follow after that, we are going to lose the little progress we have made so far,” he replies, and even though I know he is right, I can't help but get upset.
"You are not doing a great job controlling yourself around the redhead, so less talk and more action," I reply, and he rolls his eyes, but refrains from saying anything else.
And after dinner, I head towards the room they assigned me, but before that, I can't help but pass by the place where Elina is, and although I can sense her scent inside the room, I don't hear anything to indicate that she is doing something rather than just sleeping, probably, so I go to my room and sit by the window that has a view of the forest, while I try to think about the next step to take in this mess that my life has become.
However, half an hour later, I see a movement outside and my eyes catch a white with gold spot running towards the forest, I don't even have to stop to analyze the situation to know that it is Elina, and without thinking twice I open the window and jump, transforming into my wolf form in the middle of the fall, and then landing on all fours in the adjoining garden, before launching myself forward from the point where she just disappeared, and I immediately feel her scent on the forest grounds, but I can't see her anywhere, as she seems to have been running at full speed.
I feel my heart race with the possibility that something happened like the day of the attack, so I run harder to try to catch up with her and know what the hell is going on.
