CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

1696 Words
BASTIAN With each day that passes without finding answers, my despair grows, I have put each one of the best explorers of the kingdom in the task of finding any small piece of information regarding the attack, despite the fact that there is not a single person alive that was part of the attack makes everything much more difficult, I tried to find out from the survivor that we saw being captured by the Crimsons men, but apparently, he died in the middle of the interrogation. How convenient. Iris has been leading one of the search parties, but I don't know if that is such a good idea, considering the animosity that exists between her and Elina, and the fact that Iris has repeatedly stated her desire for the war to begin to "take down those damn Rogues and the red b***h", so it really is not the best of ideas, but considering that she is one of the best warriors in the kingdom, we need her help to investigate this matter, and once I give her the order, she cannot refuse to comply. The only good thing about this conflict, is that Iris no longer seems as interested in me as before, from the day that Elina almost killed her, she seemed to have lost all romantic interest in me or any intention to marry me that she might have, and as soon as August found out that the reason Elina didn't end her life that day is that a gray wolf smaller than her had stepped in to save Iris's life, which makes a lot more sense, considering how much Elina she hates Iris, he came to tell me about it, and now the question that arises is who was that wolf? Although August has his own theory about it: “I guess the gray wolf is Elina's brother, do you remember we saw him in the forest attack? I think he would be the only one who could make her stop, you know how much she loves her family, and if he intervened, it's hardly logical that she stopped so as not to hurt him,” August told me a couple of days ago when we were arguing about the attack. "You may be right, but what seems strange to me is that he is capable of a complete transformation, I thought he was an omega," I replied. "Oh no, they are only omegas in name, their father was actually an alpha," August replied, and I nearly choked on my whiskey. "What?" I asked in surprise. “As you hear it, the Mackel’s were a family of alphas in the Bloodmoon realm, he fell in love with Serene Black and decided to move to Varkolak with her, renouncing his position and his pack for her, when the war broke out, he refused to fight against his own family, and that is why your grandfather and my father demoted him to omega, but that family has the blood of alphas, so no, it is not uncommon for Elina's brother to be able to transform completely, and I would not be surprised if her other brother could transform too, they just didn't have the necessary training to do so, but I guess she taught him as soon as he went to find her,” August replied, and I was increasingly surprised by the story of Elina's adoptive family. "Stop making that face, I know what you are thinking, and it is not worth continuing to regret it," he added. "What are you talking about?" I asked. “You are thinking again about the execution of Elina's father, but it has already happened and there is no point in mortifying yourself about it again, now what we need is to find answers to avoid a war that could leave many more families without their loved ones,” He told me, and I nodded. "What do you think our next step should be?" asked. "It's obvious, we have to go to Howling Creek, don't you think?" he responded with a shrug, and I agreed immediately. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "Well, well, you two seem to think similarly, don't you?" King Arnold of Howling Creek exclaims as soon as he sees us arrive, and I frown in confusion. "The Crimson Queen arrived yesterday to do her own inquiry," he responds by way of explanation, and my heart immediately stops. "Is Elina here?" August asks immediately. "Oh yeah, she arrived yesterday with a couple of her warriors, and also with her babies," he tells us, and every time I feel like I am missing more air. "Where is she?" I ask him, and he raises an eyebrow at me. "I thought you two were at war, I think I don't need to repeat what I said last time, you are all welcome in my kingdom, but I don't want trouble, so I hope you behave while you are here," he tells me by way of warning, and I nod immediately. "Of course, I don't mean to cause trouble here, but I do want to know where she is so I can talk to her and try to stop this madness," I tell him vehemently, and he smiles sympathetically. "I honestly don't know where she is, she left very early this morning with the redhead who doesn't detach from her for an instant, and they haven't come back," he replies with a shrug, and I notice August tense next to me. But just before asking more questions I hear them, the cry of babies coming from somewhere on the second floor of the palace, and my body begins to move towards the origin of the cry almost by its own; I hear August calling my name, but I feel as if I am not able to stop myself, and my steps are becoming more urgent as I feel my breathing shake, and the moment I arrive in front of the door from where I can hear a woman trying to calm the babies, I feel like time has stopped and everything starts to move in slow motion. I open the door and the boy's big caramel eyes, so identical to his mother's, look at me with curiosity, and both babies stop crying instantly as they focus their attention on me. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
