Fierce Nervous Beta

Freedom is a heavy weight to carry

"DAAAAAAADDDDDD" I run down the pack house drive way to hug my dad when he gets out of the car.

"KITKAT" we hug tightly before I grab his bag and we start walking towards the pack house and through to our house.

"Alpha. Luna. Gamma." I greet all of my second parents with a hug. "How was your trip?"

"Boring and uneventful." Gamma James said while handing me his bag.

"Just how I like it." Luna Dawn said to me.

"Wish themed fed us more. I'm starving." Alpha Cohen says while shoveing two guns under my arms.

"Good thing I made spaghetti." I say while trying grasp another bag in my already full hands.

"Woohoo yes thank you!" Alpha Cohen shouts and slams one more bag into my chest that I catch just before it drops. He then wraps his arm around my dads shoulder and drags him towards our house.

"Where are the rest of The Golden Group and my boys?" Luna Dawn says grabbing the bag Alpha Cohen had all but thrown at me.

"Slacking off somewhere." Gamma James says confidently.

"Mostly busy with their mates I suppose. Except Oliver and Kade who insisted on fixing up my car since I'm driving again."

"Good for you sugar plum." Luna Dawn said with pride radiating off of her. "She would be proud." Tears glisten in her eyes at the mention of my mother.

My dad sits on the couch watching a game. I sit on the floor with my legs stretched under our low coffee table with pack papers spread everywhere.

"Hey dad do you know what the laws are with mates?" I look over my shoulder at him.

"I do KitKat. Why do you need to know? Is it something with Oliver?" He looks concerned.

"No. It's for Lizzy. I promised her I'd help but I can't find the laws anywhere."

"The law is that no mating will be forced onto either person by anyone and that neither person is to be used for breeding purposes as well as no one may mark someone who is not their true mate. What's going on with Lizzy that you would need to know this?"

"Her mate is forcing a life onto her that she doesn't want. He also became violent with her last week when she tried to voice her opinions. The problem is that there already mated and he won't accept her rejection. I promised her and I don't know what to do." I sigh and lean back against the couch.

"Where is she now?" My dad rises to be in his fighter stance.

"She's at Matt and Gina's. She was here for a while but I thought best to keep her moving throughout the houses."

"Clever girl." He sits back down.

"I said to her that I'll go talk to him tomorrow but I don't think that will help." At this moment I'm just thinking out loud.

"By yourself?" My dad looks very concerned by my plan.

"Not as her friend, as the future Beta. He wants to move her to his pack which crosses the line from mate problems to pack problems seein as she is one of our top warriors. I need help, what should I do?" I look up at my dad like I did when I was a little girl. He looks troubled at my dilemma and then it's like a light bulb flickers on in his head.

"Luna's have the ability to break mating bonds with only one persons rejection." He says with a glint in his eye. I can feel a grin spread across my face.

"I'll link Luna Dawn and see what she says." I say and zone out of the conversation.

'Hi Luna. I'm sorry to bother you at such a late hour and I wouldn't normally but it's urgent.'

'No problem dear. Is everything okay?'

'Yes and no. I'm not sure if you've heard but Lizzy found her mate but needs to break her mating bond. He won't accept her rejection and dad said that Luna's can break mating bonds with a rejection. Would you be willing to help Lizzy?'

'Of course hun. I'll make calls first thing tomorrow about it. We'll keep her safe until then.'

'Thank you so much Luna Dawn. I owe you.'

'Don't be ridiculous hunny bean. Love you darling, sleep well.'

'You too.' I cut the link and turn to my dad. "She said yes." I bite my bottom lip with a smile tugging the corner of my mouth.

"I wanted to ask what you want to do for your 18th birthday?" My dad asks curiously.

"A family dinner. And I want to take moms boat out to spread some of her ashes at sea, like she wanted." I look over to see my dad surprised at my response.

"I think that's a wonderful idea." He leans over and kisses the top of my head.

"I miss her." My voice is barley a whisper.

"Me too baby. Me too."

I sit in a spacious conference room in Julian's pack's pack house. A knock at the door brings my attention to a timid she-wolf who announces the arrival of The Alpha and Luna.

"Alpha Peter. Luna Margot. I'm so sorry to drop by unannounced but I come as a representative to speak to Julian Edwards with regards to his mate."

"Of course Beta Katerina. He will be with you shortly. It was lovely to meet you." The Alpha said to me with a stone cold expression.

"Thank you." Is all I respond with. The Alpha and Luna take their leave and Julian enters.

"Miss Anderson how can I help you?" He sits casually in a chair addressing me as a teacher would a student.

"Beta Katerina will do. I am here on official pack business about Elizabeth St. James." I say without sitting down. He stiffens at the mention of Lizzy.

"What about MY mate?" He looks sour towards me.

"Elizabeth is one of our finest warriors so as you can imagine we are hard pressed to allow her to leave our pack, especially against her will." I stare down my nose at him.

"She is MINE," he emphasizes. "And will do as I say." I can feel his patience thinning. This is going to be fun.

"She is not an object Julian and there are no laws to back your opinion."

"It is not an opinion, Beta," he shoot us from his seat. "it is her duty as my mate to move to my pack and bear my children."

"That duty is your opinion. Elizabeth feels differently and informed us of your outburst towards her. You have, as a result, violated several federal laws. Elizabeth has agreed not to file a report against you if you accept her rejection and never seek her out again." I say calmly. I can see his rage bubbling inside him. "If, however, you do not accept her rejection, she will not only have our Luna break you mating bond but will also file a physical and s****l assault case against you."

"She wants to reject me?" He all but shouts at me.

"After your behavior I don't blame her." I say casually. Before I can register what happens next he slaps me across the face, grabs me by the throat and pins me to the wall, lifting me off of the ground and cutting my air short.

"YOU b***h!" He screams at me. "She loves me and you had to ruin it. She would have been happy and you ruined her life." I smirk at this misogynistic jackass.

"The only life ruined here is yours." I kick him with all of my force in the stomach. He doubles over and drops me. Being the warrior I am, I land on my feet. He shifts into his wolf. With a grin on my face I pull out my fighting knives.

"I have no problem killing you. And trust me, if you attack me I will." His wolf backs down completely at the serious tone of my voice. Coward. I change my voice to my commanding Beta voice that no wolf bellow my rank can resist. "You will contact us via a phone call in the next 48 hours with the answer as to wether you will accept the rejection or not." I slip my knife back into their place at my hip. "Good day Mr Edwards." I turn on my heels and walk out with Lizzy's freedom weighing on my shoulders.
