It didn’t take him long to unlock the door and storm in. I smirked “looking for something?”. He closed the door behind him, locking it. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms across my chest “seriously? Locking me up already? We just met”. He smiled softly and pulled up a chair on the other side of the desk “just making sure our little chat isn’t disturbed. Now would you like to tell me why you hate me? Or am I to guess?”. “The list is long. I think it would take too long for you to guess,” I sneered. He motioned for me to continue. I started listing off my reasons quickly and, without pause, “Well, for one, I never wanted a mate, I am a person not someone else’s possession. For two, I have plans for my life which do not include being tied down to a mate...... Now let’s start on you personally”. He smiled as I continued, “ For one, you’re an Alpha, which means you‘re even more possessive than the average wolf. For two, I’m still in high school whereas you are in your mid twenties. And for my third and final point. You are a man w***e. I don’t like to touch things when I don’t know where they have been”. He looked down before slowly getting up from his chair and rounding the desk, leaning on it beside me.
“I can see you're not going to make this easy. To compromise, I’d like to offer you a deal”.
“Compromise? You shock me, I didn’t know you were capable of such things.....” my sarcastic tone turned serious as I asked “What kind of deal?”
“Give me one week to convince you, otherwise you can reject me, I’ll accept and you can be on your merry way”.
I scoffed, “A week and you would set me free?”
He nodded “ Yes, BUT you will have to let me treat you as all mates do. Let me take you on dates, talk about stuff, let me touch you...”
I interrupted before he could continue. “I am sooooo not having s*x with you.”
He frowned. “I was never suggesting that. I was saying non-s****l, like holding hands etc. You seriously think I’m that low? I would never force you to do anything......”.
I rolled my eyes “you want to take me as your mate and you don’t even know my f*****g name?”
“It doesn’t make you any less my mate.”
I sighed “Poppy”
“That’s a beautiful name,” he replied, not holding in his smile even a little.
I shrugged, successfully holding in a smile of my own.
He stroked my cheek and tingles jolted down my body, a sweet fire lingered where he touched, almost making me moan.
I shook it off quickly and regained my composure, but not before he realised what he had done to me and let out a smirk.
I mentally rolled my eyes and got back to more important things. “If I decide to do this I still get to finish school next week?”
“Of course”
“Do I get to stay with my family?”
He smirked further “I would have thought you would have wanted to keep it a secret. You know, I don’t think your father would react well if you told him your intention to reject me”.
My brows furrowed “wait, you don’t know my name but you suddenly think you know what my father would want?”.
He let out a smug smile, “I may not know your name, but your eyes tell me you’re the Betas' daughter. Although I have met your sisters and brothers many times.... why have I never met you?”.
I pointed at him, relenting, whilst avoiding his question "You’ve got a point. What did you have in mind?”
“I have a cabin in the woods. We could stay there” he held his hands up in mock surrender “ separate rooms, of course”.
I slowly nodded as I sighed “okay, you’ve got yourself a deal”.
He smiled “now tell me why we haven’t met before?”. His smile was as wide as it was goofy and it took everything I had not to smile in return. Hope, my wolf, was already enraptured with him, pleading with me to accept him. I pinched my nose as I tried, again, to explain to her why having a mate wasn't what we needed right now. But it was pointless, and she was determined.
I sighed, looking back at Judah as I lazily answered his lingering question. “One, we have met before, we were just younger. You probably don’t remember, you know, since we didn’t f**k. Although I doubt you even remember all of them. Two, it’s because I didn’t want to”. I motioned between us with a smug expression “I should have tried harder”.
Judah shrugged, completely unfazed by my comments, still smiling the exact same. “Okay, have your stuff packed and ready, we move in tomorrow morning, nine am sharp”.
I went to argue but he cut me off. “A deals a deal, don’t tell me now your word means nothing?” he smirked.
I rolled my eyes. “Fine nine am it is. But you tell no one about this. No one but Jacob. He won’t believe anything but the truth.”
He nodded, with a shrug, “Fine with me, meet you at the back of the pack house. Nine, sharp”.
I rejoined the party and Jacob was beside me in an instant. I quietly filled him in as he just nodded. When I was finished, he replied blankly “I hope your plan works Poppy, I don’t see how he could make you happy”. “Me either, way too serious”, I replied with a little laugh, but then I thought for a moment about the man I had just spoken to. Unlike the Judah I had previously known, well more what I had heard of him, he wasn't serious.... he was almost playful. I shook my head, attempting to rid my head of his stupid goofy smile.
I met up with my sister and Peter, catching up and chatting together before she had to return home. Jacob and I then enjoyed the rest of the party together, dancing and messing around, but I could feel Judah’s eyes on me the whole night.... this was going to be a long week.
