Closer to death

1242 Words
Alina's pov I was standing under the same big golden chandelier that had witnessed my abuse in this house for three years. Cruel destiny brought me closer to death…again. Mr. Cross was using a fake name to keep his identity a secret. The Cruz family had enemies all over the world and those enemies would cross any limits to hurt the next Alpha and his child. It wasn't Jayce Cross…it was Jayce Cruz. The very surname I hate the most. My death was dancing on my head…and there was no other choice, but to stay with Mr.Cross for the sake of our deal. One side it was a volcano waiting to swallow me inside, and on the other side it was an ocean full of hungry sharks. If I had broken my deal with Mr. Cross then Father would have surely pushed me for the marriage with Kian Cruz…and continuing my deal with Mr.Cross demanded to stay with him as his son's nurse in this house. Both the options were leading me to this vicious house of death!! I chose Mr.Cross. Being married to Kian Cruz was worse… Safrina Cruz, my ex mother-in-law, came out of her bedroom wearing a beautiful long red dress and her long blonde hair tied in a neat bun. “Jayce” “How are you?” Her palm brushed through Mr.Cross' right cheek. She was half his height and had to lift her high heels to reach his gorgeous face. “I am so happy to see you.” Her voice terrified my soul again. It was a horror to my peaceful ears. “Everything is good.” Mr.Cross answered in his deep voice. All of a sudden, her vicious blue eyes shifted to my pale face. Even a simple look from her scared me to the bones. “You're Alina Ortiz, right? She recognized my face right away. I was flabbergasted!! “How do you know her?” Mr.Cross twitched her brow. “She's getting married to Kian.” Words rolled down her evil tongue. Right… My engagement was fixed with Kian. There was no way anyone would know that I traveled back in time. “You look good.” She smiled. Those words were fake!! After marriage she only cursed me for my appearance and always taunted how I wasn't good enough for her son. Not only that, but she even compared me to Kian's mistress, who was drop dead gorgeous. It was really hurtful. “Alina is Jude's nurse!” Mr.Cross gave my professional introduction to her. The spark dimmed in her blue eyes. “You still believe Jude can walk?” Her tone was quite offensive towards five year old Jude sitting on his wheelchair. “Jude will walk!” I cut her words. She shifted her glare to my face. “Even the top doctors refused and you're saying you can make him walk!” Her brows raised on her forehead. “Yes!” My lips answered with confidence. Jude flashed a cute smile at me. Silence replenished the air… One thing Safrina Cruz hated the most was when someone interrupted her in the middle while speaking. It felt damn good after doing that. *Sigh “Will see about that.” She was offended. “Alina will be staying with us for the time being…and I want her room next to mine since Jude needs her care 24/7.” A tight smile glinted on my lips. “And this is Sara, Alina's assistant.” Sara bowed her head to Safrina. “I will arrange a room for her…” “Sara’s room should be next to Alina.” Mr.Cross demanded. “Why?” “An assistant should be close to her boss.” He explained. *Deep breath “Very well.” Safrina agreed, but she was fuming from inside because her son was demanding too much for a mere omega. She called a few guards and asked them to take Jude to his room. The guards followed her orders and gently rolled his wheelchair towards a small room downstairs, near the stairs. “You should also take some rest.” She mumbled to Mr.Cross. He nodded his head, and looked at me… “I need to talk to Alina about Kian.” Safrina interrupted our eye contact. Mr.Cross didn't say anything, he just left me alone with his vicious mother and walked over to his room next to Jude's. Sara held my left palm. “So Alina…” “Now that you're here…spend more time with Kian and get to know each other.” She was being fake sweet. It was all a show to lure me into their household…and abuse my mental and physical health in the worst way possible. I didn't understand why they chose to accept Father's proposal when they never liked me in the first place??? Did they want something from me??? “Kian is out of town for some urgent work…he'll be back tomorrow morning. You should meet him then and discuss your engagement venue.” She commanded. My head nodded to her words. The meeting was really important…because I was going to reject Kian Cruz. *** Later at night… My room was next to Mr.Cross…and yes, my lips preferred Mr.Cross over Mr.Cruz. My family didn't know that I was back in Silver Falls and was staying with the Cruz family. It would take me three hours of long discussion to make them understand my situation with Mr.Cross. Not to mention the broken engagement with Kian Cruz…that was soon going to happen. I wore my silk peach nightdress after a cold shower and made a hot chocolate coffee, my favorite. The taste of the chocolate always provided me with a strange comfort. My lips slurped. “Yummy!” *Knock *Knock I turned my head to the door and took a deep breath before opening it. The Cruz family was a bad trauma and every step of mine would only determine my fate. “Mr.Cross?” Mr.Cross stepped into my room without permission and locked the door without making a sound. My heart was beating faster than ever, and his strong aura was the reason. “Did I disturb your sleep?” His deep sexy voice inquired. “Of course not.” His gaze noticed the cup in my hands and slowly moved up to my lips. “Is something wrong?” He came closer and closed the distance between us to inches. “We're going to your father's factory tomorrow morning for those natural ayurvedic herbs.” His words were professional, but his actions were different, way different. “I understand.” He was staring at my face again… “Is there anything else?” His eyes darkened slightly… “If you don't want to marry my brother then reject him.” He said without hesitation. My eyes widened with shock!! His feet took steps back while his eyes were still looking into mine…suddenly, he stopped…and walked over to me again. I was confused. In the blink of an eye, his thumb swiftly brushed through the mustache on my upper lip shaped by the hot chocolate. My heart stopped, yet he was calm, not even a single line of wrinkles on his forehead. He took steps back and this time actually left my bedroom in awkward silence. *Sigh I perched down against the wardrobe and gulped, still shocked. “Was he trying to seduce me?”
