Chapter 7

1374 Words
It’s been two weeks since I’ve seen Ethan but we’ve texted here or there. I also recently just Skyped with my dad as he wanted to see me and see how I was doing. A part of me was happy that I moved before we Skyped so I didn’t have to explain why I was living with a strange man I didn’t know until recently.  “Princess, I haven’t seen you in so long, come hang out at the beach this weekend with us!” Toby begged over the phone.  “Yeah Ella, you haven’t come by since you moved. We miss you.”  “Fine, to see you and Rachel. But there better be beer!”  “Deal!” I didn’t ask if Ethan and Lacey would be there but my bet is that they mostly would. Ethan always brought Lacey with him whenever we gathered. I’m just hoping that after two weeks of not seeing Ethan, that my feelings are better controlled and that I will magically no longer feel attracted to him.  Ethan’s POV Ever since Ella left I found myself getting into more and more arguments with Lacey.  “Are you texting your princess again?” Lacey took my phone from my hands and started checking my messages. “Lacey how many times do I have to tell you there’s nothing between Ella and I?” I sighed and threw my hands up before taking my phone back and putting it in my pocket.  “Ethan, I don’t like her and I don’t want you being friends with her.” She took a seat next to me and placed her hand in mine. I enjoyed the physical chemistry Lacey and I shared but honestly she’s getting out of hand. Since the first day I introduced Ella to her she’s been telling me to stop hanging out with her and move out.  “Lacey, I don’t understand. Ella has never done anything to you.” I ran my hand through my hair in frustration.  “Look Ethan this gathering tonight I don’t want us to go. I finally have you all to myself and I’d rather spend it here with you.” She started to trail kisses on my ear to my neck while straddling me.  “Lacey, I’m not in the mood for this.” I grabbed her waist and pulled her away from me sitting adjacent to my side.  “I know Ella will be there and I don’t want you going. The way you treat her goes beyond the way a guy will treat their friend.”  “Lacey, there’s nothing between Ella and I. I’ve told you this a million times!” I got up to grab myself a beer, Lacey has been pushing my buttons a lot recently. When I first agreed to date her I thought she was a sweet and innocent woman but instead she turned out to be selfish and angry all the time. Whenever she came over she always wanted to have s*x, not that I mind as s*x with her was good, but she would always only want to do it when Ella was around and that bothered me.  “Ethan stop lying, you are attracted to her! Don’t lie, I see the way you look at her when she walks around in this apartment back then.” She was right so I didn’t deny it. Ella was a very attractive woman and she didn’t need to put any effort to look gorgeous.  “Lacey I’m tired of arguing about this. About Ella. This isn’t about Ella, it's about your lack of security. I don’t know if I can continue to do this.”  Lacey got up from her seat and now stood inches away from me.  “You want to break up with me for that little princess of yours? I knew it, that b***h is seducing you when I wasn’t around which is why you’re so protective over her!”  “Lacey! Watch it.” I yelled, raising my voice. I wasn’t the type to yell or raise my voice against a woman but she’s really pushing my buttons.  “You know what Ethan, I’m tired of this s**t. I’m done. We’re over. Good bye.” And with that she grabbed her bag and left.  To be honest as I heard the door close I let out a sigh of relief instead of being sad. Yes we were dating but I wasn't head over heels in love with Lacey. She was pursuing me for awhile and I thought it’d be nice to have her accompany me, that is, until she turned crazy and accused me of texting Ella every moment I was on my phone even though I wasn’t. She even went as far as changing the door locks because she didn’t want Ella to have access to the apartment. Which reminds me, I have to change them again because who knows what Lacey would do.  “Oh shit.” I looked at my watch and realized I’m already an hour late so I grabbed my bag quickly and ran out the door. I can change the locks later.  “Someone’s late” Toby mocked as I got out of the car.  “My bad. I was caught up with Lacey again.”  “Where is she?” Toby looked and saw that I came alone “We broke up.”  “Oh thank god, I never really liked her. She looked nice but you should see the looks she kept giving Ella even when Ella was miles away. She just seemed so bitchy and all for no reason.” I nodded in agreement and could only imagine how uncomfortable it must have been for Ella to the point where she wanted to move out.  “Where’s Ella?” I asked looking at our group only to find her missing.  “She went to get some drinks,” Rachel pointed at the direction of the store and I nodded.  “I’ll go see if she needs help.” After a few minutes of walking I saw Ella as she was picking out drinks and paying for it. I haven’t seen her in two weeks but it seems like she got even prettier. Her blonde hair was tied up in a messy bun while she wore a royal blue bikini which really showed off her assets.  I was about to approach her when I saw two guys walking up to her.  “Hey beautiful, here alone? Want to hang out with us?” One asked while the other grabbed the drinks out of her hand.  “No thank you.” She replied adamantly while trying to walk away but was stopped as they stood in front of her.  As if on instinct I ran quickly next to her and placed an arm around her waist making her jump before she realized it was me.  “Who are they babe your friends?” I narrowed my eyes at the two guys in front of Ella.  “Who are you?” The blonde one asked while pointing his finger at me.  “Her boyfriend.” After I said that and tightened my hold on Ella’s waist taking the drinks back with my other hand they seemed to have gotten the memo and walked away.  I was about to ask if she was okay when I looked down at her only to realize how red she turned as she looked at her feet. I quickly let go of her waist and took her hand in mine to walk back when she pulled away and stopped in her tracks. “Thanks for saving me but if you’re so close Lacey will get angry again.” She said looking away and keeping her distance from me. Something about her lack of distance annoyed me. We used to be so close and hung out all the time but since Lacey came into my life we stopped hanging out and having fun together.  “We broke up.” Ella looked up at me with her beautiful brown eyes in shock. “Are you okay?” She asked, taking a step closer. I can now smell how sweet she was even though the scent of the beach can be overbearing. She smelled like lavender and lilies.  “Yeah, I’m totally fine. She was getting out of hand.”  “Oh...so you’re single now?”  “Yup.” I shrugged and grabbed her hand before pulling her to walk with me, somehow the feeling of her hand in mine just feels so right. I didn’t want to risk the chance of her being hit on again by another guy. The thought of her with someone else just really bothered me to the point where I’d want to punch the guy for even staring at her beautiful figure and face, let alone hear her voice. What’s wrong with me?
