Its Monday and I can't believe that I missed my alarm. Then as I went to take a shower there was no water available. Thereafter I burnt my breakfast as I had to deal with my landlord who is a p*****ted old man, who keeps appearing everyday at my door asking how I am and if I have found a boyfriend yet. So I couldn't help but skip my breakfast and then as I went out of my apartment, I couldn't even find a single cab. I had to walk for 20 minutes until a cab finally appeared. I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Elena Rose Jacob, a 24 year old Indian girl with black long hair, large brown eyes, small button nose and a slightly tanned skin. I am really short, just 4ft 8inches tall with a petite body and curves at the right places or so I believe. I am from a conservative Catholic family and is currently working as a nurse in a hospital in Los Angeles, California. Its been almost a year since I started working here. My family is in India. My little family consists of my pappa, momma, a brother and a sister who are twins and are younger to me by four years. I really love my job and I am currently running to the hospital as I am thirty minutes late for my morning shift. I can't help but curse my luck as the first person I see is the one I wished not to, my senior Mrs.Jessica Daniels who is a devil incarnate and loves to find fault with anything and everything and by the looks of it she doesn't seem happy, at all. Oh lord save me..... 'Good morning Mrs.Daniels' I greeted her with a polite smile. Oh, good morning Elena it seems like you are so early today. Can you kindly tell me what time is it??? she asked pointing to my watch. 'Its...7:30', I answered stuttering. And when were you supposed to report here??? she asked smirking. 'At 7 am' I said sheepishly. So, you are well aware of the timing but is still late, she said with a wry smile. 'I am really really sorry. I kind of missed my alarm today. My phone was on silent mode and I really didn't know that. I promise you, I will never be late again. Please forgive me. Its my first time' I said pleading. Okay consider this the last warning. Just hurry and report to the nursery, she said shooing me. 'Thank you so much Mrs.Daniels I won't let you down' I said grinning. Yeah, whatever...she mumbled (So much for good manners!!!!) As soon as I reached the nursery I was taken into a bone crushing hug by, none other than Emma.....This is my crazy best friend Ms.Emma Whitman (Em) who is a beautiful brunette. In just a year we got really close. She is also a nurse and I strongly believe that she is my soul sister. Hey El where were you ???? I thought you were not going to come today. I was worried thinking if you got sick and was just starting to call you. Are you really okay??? Emma asked frowning (I forgot to say, my friends here call me El and my family call me Rose) 'I am sorry for the trouble Em but I missed my alarm. My phone was on silent mode and then on everything went downhill. So here I am thirty minutes late. I think today is the worst day of my life' I said sighing. Whoa, isn't that a bit too much. The day is only getting started baby.....she sang. 'Yeah you know how I am Em. Sorry.... I always exaggerate things a little' I said smiling sheepishly. Yep silly. Oh I forgot to tell you, our lover boy was so worried about you and has asked me to inform him as soon as you arrive, she said teasing me. (The "Lover boy" whom Em is talking about is Dr.Josh, a pediatrician, whom my crazy bff claims is having a crush on me. He is a sweet and handsome guy with the typical good boy looks. He is 6ft 4inches tall with sandy blonde hair, blue eyes and tanned skin. He is 26, but looks so young for his age. He is one among the few people who are close to me) 'Oh, don't start Em, I have told you many times that he is just being friendly and nothing else' I said whining. But why is his concerns and care only for you my dear and believe me bestie, I can always see hearts in his eyes whenever he looks at you. Also in my opinion you should give him a chance. Girl, he is a real catch, Emma said wriggling her brows. 'Em you already know that I am not interested in anything of that sorts. Also I don't have time to argue with you. Mrs.Daniels gave me a warning just now and if she finds me here chatting with you, she will surely kill me' I said wearing my mask and gloves. Speaking of the devil, I forgot to give her the lab reports that she had asked. I really want to tell you about all the gossips that I heard today, but I should probably go get those reports or she'll skin me alive. That devil, why can't she give us a break' she said scowling. 'Stop complaining, Em. I promise to listen to all your gossips during lunch, alright. Now stop sulking and just go' I said shooing her (I don't know how she gets the time for gossiping!!!!!) She gave me a million dollar smile and went away yelling, You are the best El. I smiled at her antics and moved to the nursery to meet my cute little patients. The day went on with me taking care of many cute babies and conducting a few deliveries. I love children and ever since I learnt about pregnancy and child birth, I had wanted to become a gynecologist. But due to some family issues and financial problems, I couldn't achieve my dream job. So I decided to become a nurse instead. I wish to do my masters in Obstetrics and my dream is to work as an independent midwife. I love babies. Aren't they so cute and amazing!!!! Oh God, I think I'm obsessed with children. I only realized that it was lunch time when Em and my other bestfriend or more specifically Em's bestfriend Rebecca Carter (whom we call Becca) who is also a nurse, came to fetch me. These two are the polar opposites who argue over every little thing.They are the typical childhood besties who did everything together and pursued the same dream of becoming a nurse. As we entered the cafeteria we were greeted by Dr.Josh, Dr.Lisa and Dr.Ryan. Both Lisa and Ryan are gynecologists and my besties. Lisa is the mother-hen of our group. Being mature and serious, she takes care of all of us. But Ryan(Ry) is a funny and outgoing guy. He is a typical playboy who flirts with every female he meets, except for his patients, of course. He is very serious about his job, okay!!!! Hey El, I didn't see you in the morning. What happened??? Is everything okay??? Josh asked scooting over to the side. I sat next to him with Emma beside me. There goes our lover boy. Awww...he is so worried, Emma whispered in my ears (I can't believe this woman!!!!!) I elbowed her and she scowled at me. 'Oh Josh, please don't remind me about this morning. I had the worst start when I missed my alarm. Then there was no water available. I also burnt my breakfast as I had to deal with my landlord's flirting. I couldn't even get a cab on time' I said recalling today's incidents. El, how many times do I have to tell you to change your apartment. Its really far and I don't trust that oldman. He looks really creepy, said a concerned Lisa (Awww.....our mother-hen. She is very protective of me considering that I'm not much familiar with the place) 'I know Lisa and I'm sorry. I have already started the search for another apartment but I couldn't find a good one yet' I said sighing. El, how about this, we can share my apartment. My roommate just vacated her room yesterday. It'll be great. We can have a lot of fun. We can have movie nights and I will also get a gossip partner, suggested Becca . 'You are a lifesaver Becca I would love to be your roommate!!!!' I said squealing. Yeayyyy problem solved. El, you can shift into her apartment this weekend. Also we can have our weekend get together in their apartment, right boys??? Emma said excited. Becca immediately denied the idea saying, Nope, no freaking way Em. I won't let you guys crash in our apartment. You and Ry will burn the place down for sure. What did I ever do Becca!!!!! Ryan said whining. Oh you don't just do anything Ry, but EVERYTHING, Becca yelled at Ryan and he pouted at her. You are a real meanie Becca, Emma said taunting her. You are a real brat Em, Becca yelled getting furious. Stop it both of you. You are acting like little kids, Lisa said shaking her head. 'Cut it out guys. Lets just eat. Don't forget that we have to get back to our duties', I said trying to change the topic. There is complete silence right now. I sneaked a peek at my two besties only to see them both making faces at each other (Yeah, real mature guys. These two are unbelievable. I don't know how they managed to complete their high-school together!!!!) El, how do you deal with these two crazy women the whole day, I can't stand their bickering for even 10 minutes, Ryan asked breaking the silence. Josh is trying his best to hold his laugh. What the hell Ry we were not bickering, screamed Emma. Yeah, like I didn't hear anything, Ryan said smirking. 'Though they are like an old married couple but still they are the best', I said taunting them. Elena Rose Jacob!!!!! both Emma and Becca yelled my name. 'Sorry guys but that's the truth' I said shrugging. Hearing this everyone broke into laughter. These five people are my strength. They helped me a lot when I joined here last year. I was really scared and confused initially, being in a completely strange place. But they managed to make me feel at home and I love them all a lot......... My shift ended at four in the evening. But I had a lot of files to arrange and paperworks to complete, all thanks to the sweet Mrs.Daniels. Now I am late and its already eight. I was standing outside the hospital, waiting for a cab when out of the blue, a car came and stopped before me, that too an expensive car- a Porsche Cayenne. Its an SUV with a power of 550 bhp and a speed of 286 km/hr (I wish I could drive something like this one day!!!!!) You guys must be wondering how does a nurse know about cars......Well the credit goes to my little brother. He is crazy about cars. He has the posters of all sorts of expensive cars in his room. I think at some point it got rubbed off on me too. I was drooling over the car when someone rolled down the window and called my name. Guess who??? Its Josh. Jesus Christ!!!!! When did he buy a car??? I had only seen him with his bike, a Dugati Diavel. Oh I forgot to tell you this before, he is rich, really rich. He is an Australian. His family runs a chain of hotels and he is the sole heir to that. His dream was to become a doctor. So his family gave him six years to live his dream life and then he will have to take over his family business. El, why are you here at this hour??? he asked looking confused. 'I had some paperwork to complete and I kind of lost track of time. So here I am, looking for a cab', I said sheepishly. Really El!!!! Its eight in the evening. You shouldn't just agree to whatever others tell you. Get in now. I'll drop you, he said smiling. 'No its okay. I know you are going the other way. I'll find a cab' I said denying his offer. No arguments Elena. Just get in. I'm not going to leave you here all alone, he said sternly. It seems like he won't back down and its the best option right now considering the time. So, I got in without further protest. It always gets really awkward when the two of us are alone. I really don't know if its just me or he also feels the same. I hope this time it won't be like that. 'I see, you bought a car and a beautiful one at that' I said trying to start a conversation. Yeah, I felt like I needed a change. But I think it was the best decision as I got the chance to drop you off. You know what, you are the first one to get into my car and I would say the most beautiful passenger too, he said giving me a boyish smile (Oh god, is he by any chance trying to flirt with me !!!!!! No way, right???) 'Awww....thank you Josh. I'm really flattered I said giggling. You are really pretty when you smile, he said looking into my eyes (Oh no...What should I say??? Please stop flirting, you are making me nervous Josh!!!!) I forced a smile and turned my face towards the window suddenly finding the passing buildings more amusing (What else can I do right now!!!!!) The next few minutes were spent in complete silence with Josh in deep thought and me playing with my fingers and occasionally looking out the window. After a few minutes we reached my apartment. I thanked him and I was reaching for the door when Josh held my hands and said, Elena I want to tell you something. Can you spare me a few minutes??? (Oh god, noooo....Is this where I think its going!!!!) 'Yeah sure. What is it Josh???' I asked trying my best to stay calm. Elena, I.....I really like you. At first I thought that it was just an attraction. But later on, I realized that I am in love with you...Madly in love with you. So, I would like to ask you out on a date, he said looking at me with hopeful eyes (I am literally sweating right now. Its the first time a guy is confessing his feelings to me, that too a handsome guy like him. What should I say???? I wish I could say yes. I'm sorry, but my hands are tied) 'I am really sorry Josh, but I'm not allowed to date. You know how conservative my family is. They won't agree to such a thing. You are a really nice guy and I'm sure you'll find someone better than me soon' I said apologizing. I know about your family Elena, but I can't control my feelings. Believe me, I've tried to. But I failed miserably. I've never felt this way towards anyone before and I'm sure I won't in future. I fell really hard for you. Your smile, your innocence, your care and love for others, your passion for your job, everything.....everything about you just drives me crazy. Please give me a chance. I'll even convince your family, he pleaded holding my hands. 'I don't know what to say Josh, I'm confused. I really want to say yes, but I can't....... My parents will never agree to me marrying a foreigner and I've never thought of you as more than a friend' I said sadly. Then how about a friendly date, just you and me???? he asked giving me his puppy-dog eyes (How can I resist that!!!! Oh god, please help me...) Okay, just as friends, I said smiling. He is literally acting like a kid who got his favourite toy. I again thanked him for the ride and wished him goodnight. I got out of the car and asked him to go back.
